About this deal

Embrace the chaos with Matthew Mitchell's debut novella, which tears off pieces of horror, grimdark fantasy, dying earth fiction, and drug literature, and smashes them together in hazy, mud-coated ways unlike anything you've ever seen. Most of the horror elements are little stories that the two women tell each other and which have nothing to do with what you're here for — a downward spiral of a terrible, bad sadomasochistic relationship. Which I completely agree with, so I am at a loss why after telling us readers something like that, he revealed a lot of the secrets in You've lost a lot of Blood so soon. I think the grotesque extremes really put me off, here. It was like the author was trying so hard to make his points that he went in hard and brutal instead of opting for any kind of elegance. The writing just wasn't that great. The ideas are solid but the execution was messy and abrasive. I thoroughly hated Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke and yet, it only went downhill from there.

If Things have Gotten Worse was too dark for you, You've Lost a Lot of Blood is a reasonable middle ground. Its dark but not disgusting, and much more psychological...with a hint of body horror. It doesn't inspire the same level of dread, rather, it focuses on mostly being very weird. The A plot structures itself like a dark academia (These Violent Delights) with the characters being a bit pretentious. The B plot gives off David Lynch vibes. They are pretty different, but work together to tell a complete story. LaRocca's point about queer representation is important for Richard and Weirdpunk, too: "Representation in horror—that's a whole big thing for me. I'm bi, Emma is trans, and though she's no longer a part of the press, the spirit has always been queer due to who she is." He adds that their novellas are mostly written by LGBTQ+ writers.Eric LaRocca’s superb collection Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke and Other Misfortunes is cutting edge horror with pristine writing sharp enough to slice open your skin. Strongly recommend.” -Ray Garton, author of Live Girls and Crucifax Autumn Here's the hard truth: I have no idea,” he says. “Well, I have some idea, but the answer has less to do with anything I did.” Upon reading the sections again I realize Olive and her husband have been dead all along. There was gas in the house that killed them the first night.

LaRocca’s combination of structure, adept pacing and masterful language is more complex than meets the eye… A must-read for fans of body horror, epistolary novels, and depravity”– Library Journal This collection also includes two other short stories: THE ENCHANTMENT and YOU’LL FIND IT’S LIKE THAT ALL OVER. While I didn’t love the former (3⭐️), I did really enjoy the latter (5⭐️) and thought it was another extremely effective short story. Disturbing, hair raising, chill inducing, stomach churning. The correspondence between Agnes and Zoe are not for the faint of heart, weak stomached, or delicate constitutions. Who knew that a story about selling a vintage apple peeler would manifest into such madness? *Shivers*Fourth, plot. This is all about a slave/mistress relationship and I got to say that the main plot development took a lot of swallowing, which if you have read this already, you will know what I mean.
