It needs to be allowed to modulate (turn down) and once at minimum output the boiler needs to start cycling not wall thermostat as when the boiler does it, when it turns on again it turns on at minimum output, but if the thermostat does it then it restarts at maximum output. So idea it to let the TRV control boiler output due to return water temperature not a on/off wall thermostat. Clearly with an OpenTherm wall thermostat it does restart boiler at minimum output. Using TRV analogue control also means reduced or no hysteresis so better for occupants. So with cheap programmable TRV heads and careful setting of the schedules you can get the same result when using timed programs.
