About this deal

Made using Pinot Noir from one of the Chapel Down’s vineyards in the heart of Kent and wild fermented eau de vie made with raspberries fresh from the Cotswolds, AKER prides itself on bringing out the true character of its finest English ingredients.

Gin is now definitely a global spirit, with excellent examples being made everywhere from the U.S. to Mexico to Southeast Asia, and even the UK has seen an infusion of new gin distilleries. The best thing about this is that each spirit is an attempt to capture some essence of its geography, often using locally sourced botanicals to flavor what otherwise would essentially be, well, vodka. With so many bottles to choose from, we’ve broken down some of the best gins out there to try now by highlighting stellar examples of the new and old school. Here are some of the best gin brands available now, from traditional London dry to brand-new innovations. On the nose, I’m immediately getting classic London dry gin impressions of resinous juniper, with sweet pine sap, combined with a more delicate, heathery floral profile. There’s a bit of honey here, along with some sweet orange, and no real ethanol presence to speak of. There’s a mild, warm spice rounding things out. The profile is perhaps a bit on the lighter side than some of the other gins I’ve been tasting recently, but it’s sweetly inviting, splitting its balance between juniper and florals. Being distilled in Speyside, in the heart of whisky country, we are looking forward to introducing Tulchan Gin to whisky drinkers as well as gin lovers throughout the world.” What I found fascinating was this kept delivering more flavour as you continued tasting it,” he noted. “It showed how good blended whiskies can be; a good blended whisky is worth its money.”The second team comprised: David T Smith, spirits consultant, writer and co-founder of the Craft Distilling Expo; Evan Prousaefs, bar manager at Sexy Fish in London; Dimple Athavia, founder of All Things Drinks; and Matt Chambers, co-founder of the Whisky for Everyone blog and the North London Whisky Club, who chaired the panel.

In the final rum flight, an ultra‐premium spiced rum secured a Gold medal: Welsh Witch. The rum was described as “very consumer‐friendly with solid overall balance”.

Like it’s delicious sibling, Amarula Gin is also made from Marula Fruit, and is still the only one in the World to have done so. This gives it a distinctive, exotic taste that you are going to love. One thing to note here, Amarula Gin received a Gold Award from the highly regarded Spirits Business Gin Masters in July 2022. Old Tom Gin: There are no set guidelines for this style of gin, but it is sometimes sweetened with a bit of sugar or other botanicals, licorice is occasionally added, and it can be barrel aged (which is another style of gin in and of itself). Current examples of Old Tom gin come from Barr Hill in Vermont, Ransom in Oregon, and Hibrimi in Iceland. Drink less, but better’ is a message that is undeniably resonating with consumers. But as living costs spiral around the world, it is becoming increasingly important for brands to give imbibers sound reasons to spend their hard‐earned cash on their products. But how do you determine which spirits offer substance, and not just style? That’s where the annual Luxury Spirits Masters comes into play. Three Gold medals were awarded to: “elegant, creamy” Pur Sang Standard; “fresh and vibrant” Royal Mash Vintage Vodka 2020; and Titanic Distillers Premium Irish Vodka, which offered “a lovely creamy mouthfeel with delicate sweetness and cereals”. A Silver medal went to Pur Sang Select.

With so much choice on offer, this year’s Luxury Masters competition sought to discover which products – across all spirit categories – were worthy of their price tag.Athavia said she particularly enjoyed the whiskies that were “subtle, yet complex” in the Scotch whisky flights. Two panels of expert tasters were called upon to assess this year’s eclectic entries. Forming the first panel were: Bryan Rodriguez, wine and spirits buyer at Harvey Nichols; Anthony Callegari, Edition Hotel London bars manager; and Melita Kiely, editor of The Spirits Business, and chair of The Global Spirits Masters.

A new super-premium gin from Scotland launches to consumers in the UK today. Taking its name from Tulchan Estate in Scotland, Tulchan Gin is a small batch gin distilled in Speyside, with flavours inspired by the terroir of the Estate located on the banks of the River Spey.
