Description

Although she doesn't appear in Blood Enemy, Amelia had a brief mention. She is said to often indulge in baths of blood, believing it to enhance her beauty. [1] Personality [ ]

Marcus also appears in the non-canon novel, Blood Enemy. Here he has a son named Nicolae, who Marcus considers to be a great disappointment. He and Nicolae argue constantly, and Marcus is disgusted by his son's hedonistic personality. In an effort to subdue Nicolae's behavior, Marcus and Viktor arrange a marriage between their two children, Nicolae and Sonja. This causes Sonja to become so distraught that she admits her pregnancy by the Lycan slave Lucian, and attempts to flee with him, leading to her execution at the hands of Viktor. After finding a safe house using Singe's blood memories, Marcus uses Kraven's blood memories of using a computer to access the safe house's computer system and find Selene. Marcus later informs Selene of Kraven's death after Selene tries to explain to him what had happened leading up to her killing Viktor. Following the deaths of Marius and, presumably, Semira, Selene, David and Lena are chosen as the new Elders. However, it is unclear if they will continue the Chain. In this universe, immortality was an accident, a mere genetic fluke. Alexander Corvinus, the first immortal, was the only survivor of a plague that killed everyone it touched. He had three sons, Markus, William, and another. One son was bitten by a bat, one was bitten by wolf and one remained human. Markus and William were the very first vampire and werewolf while the human child carried the immortal gene in a dormant form.

As the army became the first Vampire Coven, the Chain was implemented, a system where only one Elder ruled while the other two slumbered in hibernation. Viktor, with the aid of Amelia and the Vampire Council, undercut Marcus's power at every turn, ensuring he would never have the strength to free his brother. Thus Viktor remained the true leader of the Vampires, going as far as to allow himself to be referred to as the "oldest and strongest" of them. The Corvinus Clan has been around since at least the early seasons of the fifth century, if not earlier. Described by Lycan scientist Singe as "the rarest of bloodlines", it was from within the blood of one Alexander Corvinus, a Warlord, Duke, and the Patriarch of the Corvinus Clan, (and a recipient of this same rare bloodline), that the Corvinus Strain was mutated, in his immune system's response to a plague that ravaged his home village, his rare bloodstrain bonding with and adapting the plague virus, and himself in turn, to his benefit. In the end, Alexander alone survives the plague, becoming "the first true Immortal". In the non-canon novel, Blood Enemy, Kraven was described as an Englishman, who had been "raised on palace intrigues in the court of King Henry I."

Given the numerous continuity errors in the Chain that are never explained, it is very likely that the Chain was initially supposed to have run uninterrupted for 14 centuries, but was retconned in later installments for unknown reasons. It is also possible the record of the Chain was altered by Viktor’s efforts in hiding and rewriting Vampire history. William is the only character that participated in the final battle of Underworld: Evolution who was not hybridized or given enhanced powers from the blood of another Immortal species. Kraven drives to the Lycan den, where he confronts Lucian about everything that's gone wrong at the Vampire mansion. Lucian looks on Kraven with disgust, and announces that Kraven has messed everything up and that he now must fix Kraven's mistakes. Unhappy with Lucian's chiding of him, Kraven pulls out the Silver Nitrate gun and shoots Lucian once. As Lucian falls to the floor, Kraven flees the room, searching for a way to escape the lair. Kraven rushes to the exit, but gets there just in time to see Viktor approaching the Lycan den. Realizing he can't get out that way, he begins to wander the lair, alternatively trying to find a way out and hiding from the Death Dealers. During the early 21st Century, the Council members were living in New York in the New World Coven under the leadership of the Vampire Elder Amelia. It is likely that William was capable of entering a state of suspended animation or hibernation that is similar, but superior to those of Vampire Elders. This is shown by lower Lycans who lost their fur due to constant starvation, and Vampire Elders who became desiccated from blood fasting and require hours of blood infusion to regain their strength. By comparison, William showed no signs of physical deterioration or loss of fur from his long imprisonment, which implies he was perfectly preserved.

After William was bitten, Marcus's motivations for capturing his brother was both to protect William and any of his future victims, as well as to relieve his intense survivor's guilt. [4] While Marcus could not deny that his brother posed an enormous threat to both human and Vampire kind alike, he remained steadfast in the delusion that he could bring his brother in from his bloodlust. So certain was Marcus of this, that he truly believed that he and William could rule the Vampire Coven together. [5]
