About this deal

Later, in 1925, the company joined the Distillers Company which was acquired by the Irish Guinness in 1986, and subsequently merged with Diageo in 1997. Mouthfeel: Johnnie Walker Red Label has a light-bodied mouthfeel, with a hint of warmth to it. Without the addition of water, the whisky is not overly coating or drying on the palate, though adding water helps release the more subtle notes. For me, it’s pretty thin in texture, though there’s an underlying pepperiness that provides a gentle tingle on the tongue. Winter has arrived with this limited edition whisky, inspired by Game of Thrones, taking you right to the Frozen North with this bottle of Johnnie Walker White Walker Whisky. Dewar’s 12 year old whisky is positioned as a mid-level blended Scotch. This 12 year old expression is crafted with over 40 single malt and grain whiskies, using their signature Aberfeldy single malt as the key structure. Dewar’s 12 has a rich, full-bodied flavour palate which can be attributed to its double maturation process. (It’s spirits are aged separately, blended and then aged again.) On the nose, Dewar’s 12 has hints of citrus, dried fruits and subtle oak influences. The taste offers sweet honey and vanilla notes with a hint of spice, culminating in a smooth and balanced finish.

Rather than put UK prices up, the management decided to remove entirely the Red Label brand, which was selling 1.25 million cases at home, from the British market. The plan was to replace it with a new brand called John Barr, “which was not a success in any way”, Morgan said with some understatement. This decision had a momentous impact on the industry. You’ve probably heard that the infamous ‘whisky loch’ was caused by overproduction in the 60s and 70s, but according to Morgan “it’s really the Red Label loch because that million cases are out of the market”. White Walker is also chill-filtered and said to be best served cold. Chill filtered means that the whisky was set to a very low temperature, in this case 1.5* Celsius, and passed through filters. When whisky get very cold it has a tendency to become cloudy due to particles clumping together. Chill filtering ensures that when a whisky spends time in a freezer, it won’t come out hazy. Bottle Okay, so what does JW White Walker actually taste like? Well, I was a little skeptical about the bottle saying best served directly from the freezer, so I tried it room temperature first. I found it to be average with nutty and fruity notes and a strong spice on the finish. After just one sip, I decided to let it rest in the freezer for a couple hours, and I must say, it’s definitely better that way.Dewar’s and Johnnie Walker are both blended Scotch whisky brands. They carefully select malt and grain whiskies from various distilleries around Scotland which they use to make their various ages of blended Scotch. Neither produce single malts.

Dark Horse Officially Unveils the Game of Thrones White Walker Statue!". Dark Horse Comics. June 19, 2013 . Retrieved June 8, 2015. The uncertain times led to a merger between Dewar’s, Buchanan’s, the Distillers Company (which owned grain distilleries) and John Walker & Sons in 1924/5. The Walkers, however, bargained hard not to be subsumed within this new whisky behemoth: “What came out of this merger, which was as the Walkers had intended, were cost savings on the production side but companies that still quite aggressively competed with each other in the marketplace.” Johnnie Walker preserved its semi-independence until the Distillers Company was bought by Guinness in 1986. Alexander Walker II, John’s grandson, was the last family member to run the business. Downs and ups: Q: What is the most important task for you as master blender? And how does one become a master blender? What skills does one need?

There’s not much we know about what’s inside a bottle of Johnnie walker White Walker. Here’s what we do know: the scotch whisky is aged a minimum of 3 years, it’s 41.7% ABV (83.4 proof), and it uses single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish distilleries, two of the northernmost distilleries. Best served from the freezer, White Walker is designed to evoke the ‘chilling presence’ of the White Walkers, an undead army from the Frozen North, led by the Night King. But this wasn’t the only problem the industry faced. There was world war one followed by the influenza epidemic. Then prohibition not just in the US, but in Canada and New Zealand plus a real possibility that something similar would be enacted in Britain; Prime Minister Lloyd George was a teetotaler.
