About this deal

Think of second chances, time loops, a mother's unconditional love, smart moves, and unintended consequences.

I found that the middle got a little slow for me and I found myself getting distracted easily. I also had to listen to the epilogue twice to fully understand it. Again, I think reading the book might have been more enjoyable for me. Channels Groundhog Day with an endlessly replayed murder, as a woman's unassuming son kills a stranger - over and over again. The familiar plot motif is given an unguessable reset, and McAllister ensures that characterisation is as central to the novel's success as the plotting * Financial Times * For those who enjoyed this year's TV adaptation of Kate Atkinson's novel Life After Life, Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister is the thriller equivalent. A phenomenally clever brain teaser with a lot of heart -- Ian Rankin I was completely blown away by the plot of this ingenious thriller . . . genuinely gripping * Good Housekeeping * Uneven pace, can feel a very slow at times. The start is exciting and then it slows down till about half way. With Wrong Place, Wrong Time, a mother is trying to stop her teenage son from becoming a murderer. But so much more is going on—how did it get to that point? And why? What signs did she miss along the way? What’s The Story About

But her appearance has set something off, perhaps because Jen knows he is lying, perhaps not. There is some sinister undercurrent now, like a shark in the water." A genre-defining masterpiece that turns everything you think you know about crime, family and memory on its head. I'm so jealous of everybody who gets to read this for the first time. An instant classic -- Holly Seddon She doesn’t know who the victim is, or why Todd has committed such a devastating act of violence. All she knows is that her life, and Todd’s, have been shattered. Jen is someone I think most readers will be able to relate to. Over the course of the story she feels that she is to blame for what her son Todd has done in the present day when he kills someone. Was she around enough? Did she give him enough attention as a child? It’s the type of guilt that most parents carry as we need to earn a living to pay the bills yet we want to make the most of our children and it can be hard to find a happy medium. She is happily married and has lived in a bubble where she could never in her wildest dreams think her son is capable of murder. So what made him do it? Fiendishly clever and flawlessly executed, WRONG PLACE, WRONG TIME is a staggering achievement. I could not put this novel down - it's just dazzling -- Rosie WalshI continued reading with caution — a little curious — but I had doubts of liking the ‘groundhog’ day feeling — This is one of those books that is between a drama/fiction and a mystery thriller. There were too many dull and everyday moments, I skimmed quite a lot. The best book I have read in a very long time. Genius. Simply genius. This is McAllister as the very top of her consistently excellent game. Brilliantly plotted, perfectly paced, characters I was invested in. This is a masterclass of exactly what a novel should be. Taught, tense, not a wasted word. This brilliantly plotted novel had me on the edge of my seat. As you have already seen the future, it will be difficult for you to face the convincing lies your family members tell. How Jen's character is molded reveals why it is better not to time travel to your past if you are coming from such a family. The author beautifully depicts all the difficulties she faced due to the time travel.

Gillian McAllister takes detective fiction in a new direction with this novel. Convincingly portrayed, and the criminal plot is cleverly designed * Literary Review * You don't know who. You don't know why. You only know your son is charged with murder. His future is lost. That night you fall asleep in despair. But when you wake . . . it is yesterday. The day before the murder. But I am a bit bummed it took a while. And don’t get me wrong, I think this story turns out to be great. However, I do feel the first half could have been fleshed out a bit better.First of all, look, I really, really, really wanted to like this book. (Does this writing annoy you? Me too. This is how Wrong place, wrong time is written)
