But that wasn't all the network revealed about the state of the Yellowstone franchise. Alongside the final episodes airing next year, two more spinoffs are officially in the works: 1944 and 2024. At the time of the announcement in early May, the show's final episodes were scheduled to premiere in November 2023, while a currently untitled sequel series was confirmed to be in the works and set to debut in December. However, the writers strike and the actors strike delayed both projects, and Season 5 is now set to return in November 2024. In May 2023, Paramount revealed that Yellowstone would end after its fifth season, and also announced that a Yellowstone sequel was in the works and would premiere in December. While we know the drama will end with season 5, fans will have to wait for months to see how the show wraps everything up. However, Bentley also wanted to clarify that this doesn't mean he knows how many episodes or seasons it will take the show to reach this conclusion, so we hopefully have a long time yet before that happens.

Deadline originally reported that Sheridan decided to conclude Yellowstone with the fifth season on February 6. According to the outlet, the decision was made after Kevin requested to film the remaining six episodes in one week. Sources told Deadline that Paramount Network "declined" his ask and were eyeing a new Yellowstone spin-off starring Matthew McConaugheyinstead, wrapping up the original series. In November 2023, Paramount officially greenlit two more spin-off series: 1944 and a contemporary spin-off called 2024. Variety reports that, according to sources, 2024 will feature new characters as well as some crossover characters from the flagship show. This appears to be the sequel series that Matthew McConaughey has reportedly been in talks to star in, though that has yet to be confirmed. No premiere date has been announced. Season 2 began airing on Sunday, Oct. 29. Four new characters join Yellowstone in Season 5 as well. Kai Caster plays a young cowboy named Rowdy. Lainey Wilson is playing a musician named Abby. Lilli Kai plays Clara Brewer, Gov. Dutton's new assistant. And 1883's Dawn Olivieri joins the cast as Sarah Atwood, a Montana newcomer and "corporate shark," according to the official character description.

Additionally, Sheridan has previously said he had several more Yellowstone prequels in the works. "[The prequels are] time capsules of life in Montana as a microcosm of the world as a whole," Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023. "They're big spectacles, and the more that you move into the modern era, the bigger that spectacle becomes. I know these are huge bets Paramount makes on me every time. I'm asking them to give me Game of Thrones Season 6 money for what is essentially a pilot every year, and that's a big ask.
