Furthermore, in the case of devices such as the B1X we are looking at today, the lay out of modern multi-effect pedals I think is getting more intuitive. Yeah sure, there have been a few hiccups on the way and yes, some units that have bigger colour screens and more “data entry” dials will be even easier than smaller units; Zoom B1 does a great job of allowing the user to access either banks of patches or individual effects when editing a patch easily. For editing purposes on your PC either the free Zoom editing software or that provided by ToneLib - Zoom are both really useful. For me, it's a keeper. I love this thing. It's brilliant. It's not gonna lose its place between my bass and my amp ever.

Interestingly for me, when the device is plugged into a computer with the correct specification USB port, it will power the B1 too! A lot effects end up cutting some of the bass frequencies rather than adding to them (which is why clean blend is such a "thing"). The key concern for me would be some of the filter and synth effects - and it's not going to be low frequencies that are the main issue there (particularly if you have already stripped these with an HPF at the start of your chain) but signal spikes. If you want to protect your cabs against unwanted signal spikes then a limiter sim is what you need at the end of the patches. In my opinion, Zoom has got this category cornered. The B1X Four (and the B1 Four for that matter) will give you possibilities for modeling your bass sound that'll keep you busy for months if you don't watch out. ;)

Beyond the Bass-ics

If you are like me, I always need a bit of practice with all aptitudes, such as timing, it’s great that the onboard looper can sync-start the inbuilt rhythm section win the form of 68 internal rhythm patterns adjustable for tempo.

It is capable of doing a lot of things. For starters, it will give you a *lot* more control over the tone of your bass -- you don't need an active bass anymore to get the same kind of tone control.
