He introduced the Khalsa, or ‘pure ones’ and the ‘ five Ks'. Just before he died in 1708, he proclaimed Guru Granth Sahib - the Sikh scripture - as the future guru. The Sikh Guru, Guru Amar Das was born in 1479 and fought against caste prejudice. He wanted everyone in society to be equal and did not think it mattered if someone was rich or poor. Parrinder, Geoffrey (30 August 1983). World religions: from ancient history to the present. Facts on File. ISBN 978-0-87196-129-7. The greatness of the Guru Granth Sahib lies not only in its being the Holy Scripture of the Sikhs but also in it being a general scripture available to mankind, intended for everybody, everywhere. Guru Hargobind was born in 1595 and was the son of Guru Arjan. Known as the ‘ soldier saint’, Guru Hargobind was the first of the Sikh gurus to teach people that sometimes it was necessary to take up arms and go to war to defend the faith. This was because he believed that no violence could actually encourage other evils to come about. He also believed that this was a way that people could protect the weak and needy, so he organised a small army. 7. Guru Har Rai (1630-1661)

Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708): Sikh Guru of the Khalsa Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru, by sherpunjab14, via learnreligions.com Shabads in 19 Ragas, Gurbani Includes Japji, Sidh Gohst, Sohilaa, Dakhni Onkar, Asa di Var, Patti, Bara Mah

Like the preceding Sikh Gurus, Guru Ram Das had mystical visions and wrote songs explaining the nature of the Divine and the human experience. Among his compositions is the Lavaan– the Sikh wedding ceremony – which he composed on his own wedding day to Bibi Bhani. He also wrote four songs known as the Engagement Shabads as well as many other compositions. Guru Nanak achieved his state of enlightenment, or realization, sometime around the age of 30. After disappearing into a river and meditating in the water for three days, Guru Nanak emerged having had a powerful vision of the nature of reality, Divinity and human existence. He recorded that vision in a song – known as Japji Sahib– the Song of the Soul. With Japji Sahib, humanity has a rare picture of what a Master experienced at the moment of his enlightenment described in his own words. Born into a Hindu family, Guru Nanak rejected the notion of divisions between people based on religion. He taught the Oneness of the Creator and the fundamental brotherhood and sisterhood of all. He stated that the experience of the Divine dwelled within every person, so there was no difference between people based on caste, creed, gender or nationality. His simple but profound philosophy rested on recognizing the fundamental Divinity of all people. When lived in an awareness of the Divine Light within all, human life could become a profound experience of love, truth, patience, peace and contentment Before his death, Guru Nanak appointed one of his Sikhs as the second Guru and entrusted him with the task of guiding the Sikh community. This tradition continued till the Tenth Guru, Gobind Singh (1666-1708) who established the Khalsa on Baisakhi 1699 AD and gave a distinct identity to the Sikhs; He baptized five Sikhs and named them Panj Pyare, after which the Guru himself baptized them at his request. Guru Gobind Singh ended the tradition of appointing human successor by establishing Guru Granth Sahib on the highest seat and living Guru before ascending the Sach Khand. Guru Hargobind fought many battles in his life to protect the fundamental human rights of the people living at that time.Guru Arjan was still beloved by Sikhs as he finished the construction of the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), the central praying place for all Sikhs worldwide. It attracted Sikhs from all corners of India, becoming their Punjab stronghold. Additionally, Guru Arjan built several new towns in the Punjab which were purely Sikh. The Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak was the founder of Sikhism and was the first of the human Sikh gurus. He was born in 1469 in a place that is now called Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. Guru Nanak is the founder of the Sikh religion and the first of the Sikh gurus. He was born in a small village near the famous Punjabi city of Lahore to a Hindu merchant family. Later tradition holds that Guru Nanak gave signs of his future greatness when he was a baby. He lived a typical Hindu life until he reached 30 years of age and when he experienced a revelation of God. The highest being in Sikhism told him to rejoice in his name and teach others to do the same. Guru Nanak Dev Ji 46 [] for your , Mobile & Tablet. Explore Ten Gurus .
