If possible, compare a glossy screen to a matte screen before you buy to decide which works best for you. Do I Need High Dynamic Range (HDR)? Smoother gameplay is also part of what you pay for in a gaming monitor, so pay attention to what frame syncing technology a monitor supports. AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync both allow the monitor and the graphics card to coordinate the refresh rate of the screen with the output of the GPU, but they approach this problem in slightly different ways, and a given monitor will likely provide support for only one or the other format. The best HDR monitors offer boosted contrast and highlights that show more details in both dark and bright scenes, which makes videos appear more life-like, and are just brighter in general. Those advantages benefit not just gamers and video editors but people who binge Netflix on their computers as well. As this is a VA panel, ghosting is a definite issue, so we’d suggest that e-sports fanatics look elsewhere.
