About this deal

You can see a breakdown of the 3080 Ti’s core specs compared to the competition in the table below. Card From the list, the Asus ROG Strix LC and EVGA XC3 Ultra Hybrid, definitely, have the better cooling solution. The GPU is liquid-cooled, while the other components are air-cooled. Unfortunately, they are costly compared to air-cooled RTX 3080 Ti. The good news is, most RTX 3080 Ti with a tri-fan cooling system will offer anywhere from sufficient to excellent cooling performance. What RTX 3080 Ti is the fastest out of the box? HDMI 2.1 is a cutting-edge input that facilitates key features such as better HDR performance (high dynamic range), increased memory bandwidth and, most important, 120Hz/4K gaming.

In testing, games generally didn't have major problems, with memory temperatures peaking at anywhere from 94C–104C. The higher end of that range is a concern, however, as we're dealing with a brand-new card. How will it perform after a year or two of use? We've been there, countless times, and the answer will inevitably be higher temperatures and fan speeds over time. It’s an extremely effective method of cooling the RTX 3080 Ti, and even with a peak power consumption of 350W, the RTX 3080 Ti peaks at just 78.9C. That is a lot higher than the RTX 3090’s 72C peak temperature, even though that card has the same level of power consumption.

Interestingly, temperatures don't look too bad in FurMark, but the 3080 Ti was one of the hottest running cards in our gaming workload. 73 degrees Celsius (C) on the GPU core isn't particularly worrisome, though we did see GDDR6X temperatures well above 100C when gaming at 4K in multiple games. Again, we really wish Nvidia would have done a bit more to improve the RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition design — better GDDR6X thermal pads might have sufficed. Yes and no. It depends on how you define “worth”. Some people are okay to spend more on the design, looks, and aesthetics. But even the liquid-cooled RTX 3080 Ti will not perform significantly better compared to the air-cooled RTX 3080 Ti. For sure it will have an advantage since it has a better cooling solution. But is it worth it for you?

From a design perspective the RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition I tested is similar to most of its other 30-series siblings that have passed through Trusted Labs over the past couple of years. So far you may justifiably be struggling to figure out what’s the main difference between the RTX 3080 Ti and other Nvidia Ampere-based graphics cards. The answer is actually pretty simple: specs. Although the cards share the same architecture, the 3080 Ti’s spec sheet includes a few key upgrades on the base RTX 3080 and is a full-fat generational leap on the older RTX 2080 Ti. The RTX 3080 Ti is the same size as the RTX 3080, so it will slot in easily into the same case. (Image credit: Future) The 505.1W peak system draw I detected running Time Spy Extreme makes it a full 50W more demanding than the base RTX 3080, meaning you’ll definitely want to invest in a top-end PSU when planning a build with the new Ti. It also ran fairly hot, hitting a peak temperature of around 82ºC running the same benchmark. This is just 8ºC below the 90ºC threshold where GPUs start to struggle.Because, sure, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti does have more VRAM, with 12GB of GDDR6X compared to 10GB of the stuff on the original card, but it’s also on a faster 384-bit memory bus. That means you get 912 GB/s of memory bandwidth on the RTX 3080 Ti compared to the RTX 3080’s 760 GB/s. With faster VRAM, not to mention just more memory, the RTX 3080 Ti should be even more adept at 4K gaming in the future. As with the card in our Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 review that launched in March 2021, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti has a hardware-based hash rate limiter that should limit the appeal to cryptocurrency miners. We don’t test mining performance at TechRadar, so we can’t speak to how effective this limit actually is. But given that the hash rate limiter on the RTX 3060 was accidentally bypassed by Nvidia’s own driver update, we’ll just have to wait and see how well this actually dissuades miners from buying this graphics card in bulk. Most of the time, even the simplest RTX 3080 Ti, like NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition is enough already. What’s the best CPU for the RTX 3080 Ti? I would recommend AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X, 5900X, or Ryzen 7 5800X. For Intel, the latest 12th Gen Intel Core CPUs, like the Core i9-12900(K/F) and Core i7-12700(K/F) are currently some of the best in the market, especially in gaming. The older 10th gen and 11th gen CPUs are not bad either. But if you’re building a new system, I recommend that you jump to the latest 12th Gen Intel CPU since the performance difference from its predecessor is substantial. Should I get an RTX 3080 Ti if I have a 1080p monitor?
