About this deal

They believe that they won't always be alert - I mean, here are you are shooting away, in the heat of the moment, will you suddenly pause and ask yourself - "I wonder whether there is a light veiling right now". These people would rather not take the risk. So that it protects filters from scratches, and it is also water and dirt repellent, thus facilitating filter maintenance." [Schneider Optics] The Urth UV Filter Plus+ is a premium product, capable of cutting out up to 99.6% of ultraviolet light. Its German B270 SCHOTT glass is protected by 30 layers of nano-coating, meaning it's easy to clean and is well protected against water, dirt, oil, and other smudges, while also providing top-notch light transmission. The size range from 37mm to 127mm filter thread also means you're all but guaranteed to find a size that fits your lens. I have also found the high end Hoya filters to be good (but those I have had were a pain to clean – they tended to smear). They don't feel they are that clumsy. If they do have moments of clumsy, they would rather use a lens hood.

They don't live in the desert, near the sea, live in a factory and don't have little ones - IF they venture into these environs THEN they will fit a filter. Relatively new to the market, Breakthrough Photography's UV filters feature a thin (3.1mm) brass ring that practically eliminates filter-caused vignetting. The nanotechnology based characteristic (lotus effect) produces a better beading effect with water, making the cleaning of this filter even simpler and faster than ever before." [Schneider Optics] LensRentals.com replaces about a half-dozen front elements a week and a major cause for that damage is cheap filters not clearing the front lens element.

Ok, I get it but I still want to buy a filter. Which one? Is A better than B?

Beginners continually ask whether they should buy and fit a UV filter. It's like they feel their iPhone needs a rubber skin or case. Here are some points. I'll add more as discussion continues. A few points Made from high-quality materials. Precisely built. It offered the least amount of resistance I've had screwing on a new filter. It's very thin so it won't interfere with wide-angle lenses (as much as is possible). Photo gear shops make good money on UV filters and bags. It's stuff they can sell in addition to the camera. Or give away as an enticement. Their lens isn't that expensive but has a large filter diameter. A premium priced UV filter of that diameter could cost another lens or part of a lens. Some cheap filters do not provide enough clearance for these front lens elements and can cause scratches during installation. On a DSLR camera, the primary purpose of a Clear, UV or Skylight filter is to protect the front lens element. Some people are surrounded by little dears with greasy hands that love to touch things. Easier and less worrying to clean the filter than the camera lens. And if you are on the fence in this decision, peace of mind can easily push you over the use-a-protection-filter side of the fence.

If using a full frame lens on an APS-C format body, the standard filter ring will very likely work fine for you. Some people live or work in the desert, near salt sea spray, love to shoot in light rain. Or in dirty industrial environments spitting chips and stuff. Makes sense. Although it's usual for photographers to use filters to protect their lenses from scratches, thumbprints, and dust, the real benefit lies in the way filters improve images and, in some instances, achieve effects that even the best photo editing suites cannot replicate. There are many different types of lens filters, each for a specific purpose. While there is more than one brand offering filter options at a high quality level, I have made Schneider Optics B+W MRC filters my choice. While you may not notice any image degradation with a single high quality filter attached, those odds decrease with additional glass placed in the optical path. They've seen evidence or experienced evidence of shards of broken filters cut into the front lens element coatings. You will seldom see a difference in your image quality caused by using a high quality protective filter, but whether or not to use a protection filter is the big running debate.
