R2-D2 might be the most exciting figure among these three, unusually! The famed Astromech droid rarely experiences substantial changes, so decorating the reverse of his cylindrical body feels significant. The design looks great, matching both the onscreen character and the panels across the front. I love the splattered mud as well, even though Artoo's struts seem too clean. The Death Star Trench Run Diorama captures the tension and drama of an unforgettable moment in time in Star Wars: A New Hope. Three TIE Fighters, including Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced, pursue Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing. Frozen-in-time laser blasts from a TIE Fighter and Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter take aim at Skywalker. The mostly gray trench features many industrial details. A name plaque with a Darth Vader quotation attaches to the front of the display. 1. LEGO Star Wars Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama 75330 With particular consideration to what has now been confirmed as 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama, anticipation also pegged these sets as likely being on the larger size and even with the sets now revealed, a 1,000-piece Dagobah-based display piece could and ordinarily would have you dreaming of something larger than what 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Dioramaactually is, particularly when 2018’s 75208 Yoda’s Hut came in at a similar size for the little green guy’s home and was made with just 229 pieces. For LEGO fans my age whose favorite childhood sets may have been Forestmen sets like 6066 Camouflaged Outpost, the combination of arches and flat leaf pieces capped by 1×2 plates or tiles will feel nostalgically familiar.

Crap, I might have talked myself out of at least two of the sets being overpriced :) I still stand by the trench run set being too pricey. The plaque in front features the LEGO Star Wars logo alongside the quote that defines the scene, “Do or do not. There is no try.” The logo and quote truly tie the overall set together as a wonderful display piece. Dagobah seems to be inhabited by a rather limited number of sentient creatures. Thankfully, this LEGO set includes the maximum population of such beings — Yoda himself, Luke Skywalker, and R2-D2. This version of Luke features a new torso and leg printing, while Yoda is indistinguishable to my eye from previous versions. LEGO fans have been building small dioramas and calling them “bignettes” (big vignettes) on a defined footprint for quite a while. Some builders have even incorporated edges on their scenes to create even better-looking display pieces. You can even attach Luke Skywalker upside down, using a trans-clear 1x1 round plate with bar and matching accessory holder. The same interesting technique appeared in 75208 Yoda's Hut, four years ago."LEGO recommends the series for builders ages 18+ for a couple of reasons. One reason is due to complexity of the build. Another reason is due to LEGO’s anticipation of who will be most interested in the set. Experienced builders under 18 may still enjoy constructing the dioramas.

Printed quotations also accompany each model and the scenes on Dagobah certainly provide ample material to draw upon. I think Yoda's famous comment regarding conviction when using the Force was most appropriate though. The neighbouring LEGO Star Wars branding adorns a 2x4 tile, also present across the burgeoning diorama series. Another window is situated on the other side, nestling among tree roots. The distinct shape is cleverly recreated using tan wheel arch pieces, which have not appeared in this colour before. Furthermore, those tree roots are integrated beautifully, generally following the contours of the hut, but leaving some gaps to give the impression of natural growth. Display value is evidently paramount across the new Diorama Collection and this rendition of the swamp surrounding Yoda's hut looks fantastic. While the colours are inevitably earthy, the vibrant trans-green of this swamp is striking and tan elements are reserved almost exclusively for the hut, ensuring the structure stands out within its organic surroundings. The LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection takes this design aesthetic to the next level, featuring a crisp box that defines the edges, complete with a plaque on the front and what appear to be vents on the sides — almost as if this is an electronic device like a holo-projector. You spend the remainder of the build process filling in landscape and structural details within this box.As of spring 2022, LEGO will have released a wave of 3 different Star Wars diorama sets. LEGO plans to release additional waves of dioramas in the future. Diorama Price Range It’s important to consider the creative direction that 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama represents – this is LEGO building for an older audience not interested in play, looking for detail, depth and authenticity to their LEGO creations so as to place them proudly on display, to gather only the type of dust a more sophisticated, older LEGO fan can generate. Luke is apparently a new and exclusive design for this set, but verges so close to how he looked in 75208 Yoda’s Hut that we’re not sure we can give the LEGO Star Wars team the credibility for that claim.

During the build, I felt like I was attaching a lot of random arches and curved slopes to build up Yoda’s hut and the trees. However, upon completion, they fit together rather beautifully. Yes, for 1,000 pieces you would hope for more, and yes, maybe there was a better colour combination to choose for depicting the swamp, but otherwise, we can agree with Yoda: size matters not. The LEGO construction involves a collection of curved slopes and bows, avoiding the same shapes appearing too frequently. The integration of dark tan and olive green highlights looks wonderful, alongside a tiny plume of smoke. Additionally, the high window reflects the original building, while the window that R2-D2 peers through would be positioned behind the tree, so outside the scope of this model. There are no play functions in this set, no opening doors or sides to the hut and no movement in the starfighter wing – everything contributes to setting the scene, everything is there for visuals, even if you can move the minifigures around and play with them as usual.

Minifigures

The space inside is extremely cramped, barely accommodating two minifigures. Nevertheless, some details from the movies are present, including a cooking pot and Yoda's simple bed. The stove is perfectly positioned beside the chimney and features a few trans-red and trans-orange tiles, hidden behind the pot. Yoda's lightsaber, meanwhile, is stored in the rafters. The buildable LEGO Star Wars Helmet series also features an 18+ recommendation for similar reasons as the dioramas. How many LEGO Star Wars Diorama set are there?
