About this deal

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a new novel in her Blood and Ash series…

Hawke tries to save Poppy and uses compulsion to get her to drink his blood. When she comes to, Poppy remembers Kieran having referred to Hawke as Casteel, and Poppy realizes that Hawke is the Dark One, Prince Casteel "Cas" Da'Neer. Poppy grabs her dagger and stabs Cas in the heart. She cries and apologizes for killing him. She run off into the woods. After a few moments of running in the woods, Cas grabs her from behind and indicates that he cannot be killed with a stab to the heart. He told her that she had forgotten that it was real and proceeds to bite her. After he bites her, he states that he should have known. Poppy and Casteel then have sexual relations in the snow. Afterwards, Poppy realizes she had no regrets. Unable to sleep, Poppy sneaks out of Castle Teerman using a white mask she found and a "borrowed" cloak from the servant Britta. She soon finds herself at The Red Pearl, the location known for shady and covert dealings where she watches women dance upon men and plays cards with a few others outside. However her games come to a short end, when she spots Vikter Wardwell, one of her royal guards. In an effort to avoid being discovered, a women who somehow seems to know Poppy is the Maiden, instructs her to hide in the sixth room of the facility. Upon entering the room, Poppy discovers she is not alone and has stumbled upon member of the Royal Guard, Hawke Flynn. After mistaking her for Britta, Hawke begins to kiss her and he soon realizes she is not who he thought she was. Poppy internally debates whether she should stay in the room as she risks the discovery of her true identity. I could practically feel steam coming off of my ears and when they finally confessed, I could feel myself breathe again. JLA sure as hell played us!Their pretenses, their conversations, her retorts and his inappropriate behavior in the most inappropriate of times delights me. But their intensity, protective nature, and their readiness to sacrifice their lives for one another goes beyond physical and ignites my soul.

On the road to Jasper's house, the group is met by hundreds of Atlantians, who are crying at the sight of Cas. The older men and women kneel, place a fist over their chest, and slam their other hand against the sidewalk yelling Meyaah Liessa, which means my queen. When the group arrives at the courtyard of Jasper's house, hundreds of wolven appeared, shifting all at once to their mortal form, and doing the same salute to their Meyaah Liessa catching Poppy by surprise. Book Genre: Fantasy, Fantasy Romance, High Fantasy, Magic, New Adult, Paranormal, Paranormal Romance, Romance, Vampires, Young Adult Eloana introduces Poppy and Cas to Rose, who manages the palace. By the way, I’m not yours,” I told him. “I don’t belong to anyone but myself. Nothing changes that.” Amplification of Emotions: Poppy can amplify emotions and project it onto other people, causing unimaginable pain which can lead to their deaths. As I said,” the Prince continued, dragging one long finger over the rim of his cup. “A marriage can only occur between two Atlantians if both halves are standing on the soil of their home, Princess.”

Crystal,” he responded, eyes heating to a warm honey hue, but there didn’t seem to be any anger in his stare or tone. There was something else entirely. A look that made me think of warm skin and how those rough, callused palms had felt against my cheek, gliding over my belly and thighs, grazing much more intimate places. The dimple in his cheek deepened. “But we shall see, won’t we?” Okay this book is overall great. but a few issues to be aware of if you are going to listen or read. holy boredom, Batman. The first 67%+ of this thing was so tedious. SO tedious. It's not so much that I hated it or anything, but more just, well... im proud to be the 17th person to rate this 1 star. i mean im worried about yall's standards, but im proud of my rating. As the elders, Poppy, and Cas sit at the table in the State Room, Lord Ambrose wishes to further speak about the concerns that some of the council had regarding Poppy. Valyn and Cas rebuke Lord Ambrose for bowing to Cas but not to Poppy. Cas commands Lord Ambrose to bow and show respect, or die.Delano leads Poppy down to the cellars. Hawke visits Poppy and stitches up a wound she received while trying to escape the stables. He tells Poppy that the Ascended were vampyr who needed to feed off mortals because of their strong blood lust, that the 3 rd and 4 th children handed over during the Rite were used to feed the Ascended, and that if those who were fed upon were drained and not killed, they would turn into the Craven. He tells her that the Dark One plans to trade her for the Dark One’s brother, Prince Malik. He informs Poppy that he must go speak with King Valyn Da’Neer of Atlantia, but that he will find her better quarters. Initially Poppy does not believe Hawke, but as she thinks about his words, she begins to question everything the Ascended taught her.

As much as I wanted to know what happened next in this series, I wasn't giving it much hope. And I was right to do so. I feel like nothing occurred in this one. and look their dynamic is fun but when nothing else happens and thats all we have to sustain the story? not so much. i loved them at the begining, but i cannot stand them now. Their repeated scenarios of stabbing-threats and pretending-promises aren’t JLA being out of ideas ( her banter and, obviously, drop-dead steamy scenes are signs of her creativity), what they are is an accurate, in-character core to their bond, the type of which you’d usually find in well-developed partnerships with too much history. What they are is a cycle: he teases, she brandishes dagger, he in enticed, she is enticed, so he teases, so she brandishes dagger, so he is enticed even more, and you know how it goes. That most likely sounds like a very dysfunctional romance, but to quote Cas, “You can’t spell dysfunctional without fun, now can you?” He wants a fight, she wants a fight, it’s a win-win. And them both being vengeful, ruthless creatures and experiencing a blooming development to embrace the other’s darker side is only a plus. Stop criticising them for not being a sane, boring, logical matching please and thank you. I have a lot of blood on my hands, Poppy. Sometimes, so much that I don’t think they’ll ever be clean. So much that I. don’t know if I ever want them to be."despite that it is really good and I genuinely enjoy it even without a strong plot there is still a sense of that slow burn and romance, i like the sense of mystery put in. the ending was good plot wise. At dinner, Casteel announces to the room that he intends to marry Poppy. Poppy says she will never marry him. Landell argues that Poppy will never be his queen after Elijah indicates that if Cas chose Poppy, then they all chose Poppy. Landell criticizes Cas's change of plans and insults Poppy's scars causing Poppy to flinch. As Landell pulls out a dagger, Cas rips out Landell's heart. Poppy gets up to return to her room, but Alastir and Emil walk in. Alastir's voice reminds Poppy of Vikter, but she does not say anything in front of him because Cas warns her not to fight him in front of Alastir. This book going to erotica books kind of places, sure I do appreciate some scenes but the Joining? Euh... My heart, my world 💙. My obsession with him is quite simple. He laughs, I laugh. He is furious, I'm furious, he cries, I cry. He is breathtaking and intoxicating and all the other good adjectives I can come up with. He might have a lot of blood on his hands, but his gentility, intensity and soft-heart, especially where Poppy was concerned touched the fan girl in me. I've only read two books of Jennifer L. Armentrout but I respect her for blindsiding me like that, for keeping me on my toes, barreling my way through the twists and turns of the book whilst also pleading with anticipation.
