This is not like those boring old fantasy books from the past. This doesn't have mindnumbing world building, or multiple family units with names you can't pronounce, a confusing magic system or generic bad guys. I don’t know what I was expecting – like I’m all for a monster and dark romance and having to control urges but this just made me laugh She loves everything spicy, smutty,and everything boarder-line monster loving. She started writing because of her love of the written word, and because she wanted to build a diverse world of mythological creatures, while also showing the beauty of all ethnicities of humanity. She thrives to produce a plot driven, character developing book while sprinkling in enchanting imagery.

This was gonna be a 3-star review up until the 80% mark, at which point I was genuinely angry at the way they decided to handle things, so down to 1-star we go. Duskwalker Orpheus is an absolute cinnamon roll of a monster. He is both every horrible thing Reia has ever imagined him to be, but funnily enough is also one of the sweetest and the most thoughtful creatures she’s ever known, showing her more kindness than her own people ever had. In exchange for his protection and by default his prisoner, Orpheus in return just wants a companion, and the two form a strange friendship. Los personajes son geniales y la construcción del mundo a mi me re gusto, te da lo suficiente para mantenerte enganchada y te deja mas preguntas para después en los otros libros seguir contestándolas. It was a bit much considering it was kind of in passing and monotone sounding and without any real pain or angst over it Ladies, just because your man treats you nicely doesn't mean that his ex, who is still dealing with PTSD from being his first partner, is evil.The story was steamy (3/5), after a gradual stroking-the-flames build-up. Be prepared for some surprising dirty talk from our sweet hero and some creativity in their uniting. (You will welcome a picture of our hero’s inner workings once you read.) Also, expect some eye-orbed jealousy as other characters are introduced. Reia, I just never grew to like her. And I felt like I didn’t know her that well by the end of the book. Orpheus we learn more about, but it seemed like a lot of it was revealed by others and I wanted to know him more from his perspective.

This was kind of like smutty Beauty and The Beast, if the Beast never turned into a human. Orpheus (aka the Beast) was incredibly sweet. He was like a big, weird puppy dog. I loved him! Reia was ok. She annoyed me sometimes, but she wasn’t too bad. The world building was interesting, but the best part of this book was the smut. The sex (surprisingly?) which was described in a way that sounded painful rather than hot. Rearranging someone's guts... metaphorically is fine... but literally? Jeez Louise, no thanks! But I am shameless enough to admit I read alllll the sex, which was interesting to say the least lol. Each decade, in exchange for a protection ward from the Demons that terrorise the world, Orpheus takes a human offering to the Veil – the place he lives and the home of Demons. The brief companionship does little to ease his loneliness, and their lives were always, unfortunately, cut short. There was a lot of him wanting to eat her the entire book. And I’m not like ohhhh I can’t handle that, but it was just done so nonchalantly, it felt almost comical to me. Like oh were you going to eat me again?? Nods head shamefully…Shakes finger at him. Youuuuuuuu...This was not my usual – a slow burn, not particularly dark, and in the third person – but I am glad I tried this fantasy romance. Despite its length -- because it was very long -- it was well-written, and while in third person, it gave the feeling of being in first person, inside the characters’ minds. Reia, despite being annoyingly foolhardy at times, was peppy, lively, and such a great sunshine companion to Orpheus, especially in his sometimes dower times. I loved Orphesus, the monster who wasn’t really one, his graciousness, his jealousy; and their passionate, sometimes rough expression of love. This was a beautiful dystopian world of demons, elves, phantoms, and supernaturals.
