About this deal

If anyone had told me a week ago that I should be investigating a crime where a woman was killed with a poison dart with snake venom on it – well, I’d have laughed in his face! It’s an insult – that’s what this murder is – an insult.” The characters of Dr Bryant, James Ryder and Armand Dupont are omitted from the adaptation; Jean Dupont is the only archaeologist on the flight. Madame Giselle (or Marie Morisot)'s name is slightly changed to Marie Giselle, and Anne Morisot was renamed Anne Giselle. The airline clerk's name is not given in the episode, although the one in the original novel had the name "Jules Perrot".

This rounding up has nothing to do with the flak I have received at only giving it 4 stars, honest 😬 So here we are on Monday, and I'm still thinking its about a 4.4 rounded down to 4 stars ⭐️ The story is an excellent one, with a uniquely limited cast of characters (suspects). I know in the past I have seen the David Suchet version of this, but I don't remember reading it at all, and I certainly didn't work out (guess) who was the perpetrator.

Because you are deducing from things that you have seen. Nothing can be so misleading as observation.” Théâtre des Champs-Élysées - externals and some interior shots of the hotel of Horburys, Venetia Kerr, Poirot. At various places there is a logo comprising a letter H over a C and E, possibly denoting "Hôtel Champs-Élysées". In Murder on Board omnibus (hardcover), with The Mystery of the Blue Train and What Mrs. McGillicuddy Saw, Dodd, Mead & Co, 601 pp Hungarian: Poirot gyanúba esik (Poirot Becomes a Suspect), Halál a felhők fölött (Death Over the Clouds), Halál a felhők között (Death in the Clouds) The police together with Poirot discuss which of the passengers could kill Madame Moriso, but no one could go up to her unnoticed. Poirot notes that the pipe was placed under the seat, and not thrown away. He asked for a detailed list of belongings of passengers.

Robert Barnard: "Exceptionally lively specimen, with wider than usual class and type-range of suspects. Scrupulously fair, with each clue presented openly and discussed. Note Clancy the crime writer, and the superiority of French police to British (no signs of insularity here)." [9] References or allusions [ edit ] References to other works [ edit ] In late 1926, Agatha's husband, Archie, revealed that he was in love with another woman, Nancy Neele, and wanted a divorce. On 8 December 1926 the couple quarreled, and Archie Christie left their house, Styles, in Sunningdale, Berkshire, to spend the weekend with his mistress at At any rate, we have the speaker of these words, Monsieur Hercule Poirot himself, whom surely we can trust. He just happens to be one of eleven passengers in the rear compartment of the plane. In addition to himself and the unfortunate victim, “Madame Giselle” or Marie Morisot , there are quite an assortment of characters. There is the pleasant and very ordinary Jane Grey, who is a junior hairdresser, Norman Gale, a dentist, and Daniel Clancy, an amusingly absent-minded mystery writer. There is a doctor, Doctor Bryant, a businessman, James Ryder, the Countess Cicely Horbury and her friend Venetia Kerr, and lastly two French archaeologists, Armand Dupont and his son Jean. All seem to be exactly as they appear: amusingly comic, selfish, a jumped-up snob, a shy academic, a reliable professional, and so on.In this adaptation Monsieur Fournier is given the title of "Inspector", and here it is Japp and not him who asks the concierge if she recognised Lady Horbury in a picture. Here the concierge Georges is replaced with an elderly lady.

Close your eyes, my friend instead of opening them wide. Use the eyes of the brain, not of the body. Let the little grey cells of the mind function … Let it be their task to show you what actually happened.

The voice of Poirot. I used to read Christie's novels until recently I started to listen to them. Hugh Fraser brings Poirot's French/Belgian side of the character to life. As I have limited exposure to French, I cannot but imagine Poirot as the typical English gentlemen. Hugh Fraser gives me a more complete illustration of Poirot's character In the UK, the novel was serialised as an abridged version in the weekly Woman's Pictorial magazine in six instalments from 16 February (Volume 29, Number 736) to 23 March 1935 (Volume 29, Number 741) under the title Mystery in the Air. There were no chapter divisions and all of the instalments carried illustrations by Clive Uptton.

The Secret of Chimneys - The Seven Dials Mystery - Cards on the Table - Murder is Easy - Towards ZeroBut when all is said, this is a most enjoyable novel, with not only Poirot gleefully explaining how the crime was committed to a writer of the genre, but another, seemingly inexplicable secondary murder, towards the end of the book. A reviewer of the time in “The Guardian” newspaper said: Poirot weaves his marvellous magic, travelling to and from between France and England to dig out clues, discard red-herrings and ultimately unmask the murderer. As I said an excellent story that kept me enthralled, not just entertained, for 2 nights, hmm so why am I not giving it 5 stars. I will have to ponder that one
