It's a very symbiotic relationship between writing and art. And that's a huge theme in Star Wars in general. I think it's the perfect way to utilize concept art. It's more like, "I've got a vague idea." And some art comes along and that stimulates more ideas for the writing. It just seems to be the way it works best for Star Wars. I think part of the issue with Star Wars is that until a visual is put to it, it's really hard, I think, for the writers to wrap their heads around what they're trying to visualize with their story. Because Star Wars visuals are not like anything in our world. And so these artists really inject life into the story in a way that the writer would struggle to do alone. Otterson, Joe (May 26, 2022). [135] The next month, Favreau said there was an opportunity to explore the series' characters in other Star Wars films or television series. [3] Bob Iger said in February 2020 that spin-offs of The Mandalorian were being considered, and there was potential to add more characters to the series to then give them their series. [136] Favreau said in October that as more characters are introduced in the series, "we are beginning to explore where we could go". He felt Lucasfilm could be "more responsive" to audience reactions in determining potential spin-offs due to the faster production time for television series than films. Favreau looked to his experience working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where smaller stories exist within the larger narrative, as a potential guide for spin-offs. Additionally, both Favreau and Pascal were open to the idea of the Mandalorian appearing in a Star Wars film, but Favreau was in "no rush" to do this. [137]

Returning for The Mandalorian season two, executive creative director Doug Chiang ( Star Wars: The Force Awakens , Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ) and the incomparable group of artists, designers, and dreamers known as the Lucasfilm art department "visualists" undertook the challenge of continuing to push the boundaries of Star Wars storytelling while also translating Ahsoka Tano from animation to live action and updating the look of the legendary Boba Fett. The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two) is the only book to explore the artistic vision for this groundbreaking sophomore season, taking readers on a deep dive into the development of the next chapter of Din Djarin and Grogu's story. Exclusive interviews with the filmmakers and the Lucasfilm visualists provide a running commentary on The Mandalorian 's innovative art and design, revealing the inspiration behind the look and feel of the series. [1] Media [ ] Editions [ ] In The Mandalorian, the paths of Mando and the Child cross and are irretrievably united. So it seemed important to me to show both characters in the illustration, walking side by side. But, despite the importance of the Child in the plot, I though it was necessary to highlight the figure of Mando as the main protagonist of the action; that’s why the scene is located into his silhouette.I created this art feeling resonance with the strong will of the Mandalorian through the words ‘This is the Way.’ I am a calligrapher – ‘書道家’ in Japanese -- so my job title also includes ‘the way’ [道]. Therefore, ‘This is the Way’ means a lot to me. The Kanji ‘我’ and ‘道’ in ‘This is the Way’ [我らの道] shows the dynamics and strength of the Mandalorian, while the hiragana ‘ら’ and ‘の’ is inspired by the softness of the Child.
