If Andrew doesn’t come along as expected… and you’re missed… and I’m missed…” She looked up at him, her eyes huge and horrified in her face. At the age of 23, she fell in love with a dear family friend, George Rokesby. The two married, and made permanent residence at Crake House, and went on to have three children together. Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbors for centuries, and as a child, the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband... someday.

Her face went suddenly pale. Even her eyes, normally a fathomless shade of brown, seemed to blanch down to something decidedly more tepid. I liked George _despite having forgotten his name *cough*_, his bafflement over his "sudden" interest in Billie was fun to read, but in the end this story's plot was practically non existent.

List Chapter or Page:

Her words trailed off, and she chewed on her lip, looking uncomfortable, and, if one was honest, vaguely ill.

A generation before the Bridgertons, there were the Rokesbys. Set in the late 1700s, this series follows the aristocratic Rokesby family, who happen to be close friends and neighbors of the Bridgertons.

George. They’d never liked each other. But Billie supposed she could not complain. George was the only available Rokesby at the moment. Edward was off in the colonies, wielding a sword or a pistol, or heaven only knew what, and Nicholas was at Eton, probably also wielding a sword or a pistol (although hopefully to considerably less effect). Andrew was here in Kent for the next few weeks, but he’d fractured his arm doing some such derring-do in the navy. He could hardly have been helpful. This is a story of family. The Bridgertons and Rokesbys are very close. It is almost as though they are one very large and happy family. There is a great deal of humor and love and warmth in this group. He regarded her with clear skepticism. Aside from the fact that this had nothing to with his dependability…“Didn’t you just say that it’s too far to jump?”

There is humor in this book. There is always humor in Ms Quinn's books. She writes delightful characters and charming plots. Their homes –Crake House for the Rokesbys and Aubrey Hall for the Bridgertons– lay a mere three miles apart in this cozy green corner of Kent. The Bridgertons had been there longer –they had arrived in the early 1500s, when James Bridgerton had been made a viscount and granted land by Henry VIII– but the Rokesbys had outranked them since 1672. Also, the epilogue was extremely short, so this may bother some of you guys who love to bask in the post-drama bliss. Not for the first time Billie wondered what her Heavenly Father had been thinking when she’d been born a girl. She was clearly the least girlish girl in the history of England. Billie hat keine Ahnung was da plötzlich passiert mit ihr und warum sie Georg so anders sieht, wie sie seine Brüder sieht, beide lernen von ihrer üblichen Art abzuweichen, was für beide ähnlich wie im Blindflug ist.As if women who are feminine or fashionable or "flirt over a fan" aren't capable...? And why is it that women, like Billie, who can run estates can be considered capable, but not those who are able to run grand houses? So Billie considers herself to be capable (aka better) than like nine-tenths of the women around because, really, how many of them are going to be owning, much less running, estates like she does, right? (And I guess I'll never even come close to being considered capable because I'll never even own a grand house, so let's just forget about the estate. And neither will plenty of other people.)
