About this deal

When running in client mode the ESP32 presents a web interface that can be used to control TRVs and administer the EQ3-mqtt application.

I have made mistakes with late mothers central heating, I looked as the spec and decided a Horstmann HRFS1 was a good option, it was programmable so I could set different temperatures through the day rather than simple on/off of the programmer, however it lost rf link, and left boiler running, unlike the Honeywell it did not have a fail safe. However, if, like me, you have a fixed schedule, you don’t have to replace your entire system with a smart system. You could just get programmable TRVs and have them come on based on your schedule. This would likely be considerably cheaper upfront than a smart heating system but with similar energy savings (just less convenient). In my experience, in a largish 16th Century stone-built house, the positioning and orientation of the base unit was critical. Move the base unit just a centimetre or two and one or more radiator fell off the system! I have never seen Hive in action, but the whole idea of the TRV sending a 'demand for heat' to the wall thermostat seems a good idea if it works, I say if it works, as I fitted Nest which was claimed to work with Energenie TRV heads, but it didn't work, it was to be fair Energenie who said their TRV worked with Nest not other way around, and it seems Nest has withdrawn support. When compared to standard thermostatic radiator valves, the smart alternative is a great upgrade. The added convenience of simply programming schedules as well as other intuitive functionality make them a worthwhile investment. However, it’s important to note that they may require a smart system/controller and they aren’t standalone. This is due to the internet connection requirement, which allows them to be remotely controlled via a smartphone app.So the idea is you fit a wall thermostat in a room normally kept cool, on ground floor, with no outside doors or alternative form of heating, so as summer approaches it can turn off boiler and stop it cycling. It is set slightly higher that the TRV so in winter it never turns off. I added installation manual to name of boiler and got this manual the first move was select find and type in OpenTherm and it got a result, so it would seem you have a number of options. Now I've figured this out I can stop it by turning the thermostats right down to zero when the heating is off, but it's not really practical. A timeout has been added to BLE operations to attempt to prevent the 'freeze-up' experienced occasionally on previous versions. Compiling

A certain amount of users may find out from the earlier alternatives and produce heat modifications to suit needs, and some implement task automation or smart optimisation functionality to decide if you should change the heating system.

a big rotary control for easy manual operation. Why push buttons on the side where in at least 4 location in my house it would be impossible to reach the buttons?. Mode switches and a boost button (very useful: opens the valve to a programmable percentage for a certain time. M Note: If your ESP32 tasmota is not synchronized with a valid date and time, this command will set the wrong time and date to the TRV. See set time. mosquitto_pub -h 127.0.0.1 -p 1883 -t "radin/trv" -m "ab:cd:ef:gh:ij:kl settemp 20.0" # Sets trv temp to 20 degrees It should be multizone, each zone controlled by a controler thermostat (I plan to use esp32 with tasmota or espHome) that regulates operation of the valves when the temperature goes out of range. In my opinion, all that a smart thermostat does is provide a convenient control for your heating. If you were frugal with heating in the first place, I doubt you would see a significant difference.

The radiators have thermostatic TRVs that regulate water flow depending on the internal thermostat. Hands-On Expertise & Collective Knowledge: Our team boasts extensive DIY experience and in-depth knowledge. Keep in mind that the TRV does NOT report the current temperature, only the requested, target, temperature. The Xiaomi Thermometer LYWSD03MMC makes a perfect combo for measuring the room temperature (~USD 4)

Control of valves is carried out by publishing to the /radin/trv topic with a payload consisting of: Now, to me it seems the thermostats don't actually talk to the boiler - from the junction box there is power to the Viessmann H1 External Extension, but no other connections. Setting up WiFi radiator valves in your own home or firm can precisely adjust temperature, boost convenience and preserve electric power. The smart TRV performs this by providing the consumer with the capability of programmable heat of one or more radiators. See our WiFi controlled light bulbs. If you don't go that way, if you are going to fit out many radiators, I'd perhaps get a trial selection of a few different Zigbee TRV's known to be compatible with Zigbee2MQTT. I doubt you could realistically beat the price DIY to be honest as long as you shop around. Get a compatible Zigbee controller dongle and visit Ikea to grab some mains powered Zigbee devices so that you can use them as mesh extenders.
