Acute injuries to tendons usually occur at the point of least blood supply, for example with the Achilles tendon it is usually 2cm above the tendon insertion or at the musculotendinous junction. A complete tendon rupture generally occurs without warning. Also, this type of injury usually occurs in older athletes without a history of injury in that particular tendon.
