Taking too much colecalciferol can cause calcium and phosphate to build up in your body (hypercalcaemia). From 1979 the western part of the complex has been in use thanks to the University of Pisa, which opened the Museum of Natural History – among the oldest in the world – there. Inside are paleontological, mineralogical and zoological collections, alongside a gallery of cetaceans (among the largest in Europe), new rooms dedicated to dinosaurs and an important freshwater acquarium. CALCI-D is a preparation for oral use, in which calcium carbonate is associated with colecalciferol (Vitamin D3).

e) Strength: Each chewable tablet contains 2500mg calcium carbonate (equivalent to 1000mg calcium) and 1000 I.U. (equivalent to 0.025mg) cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3). The recommended maximum daily dose differs slightly depending on the source of information, but the European Food Safety Authority recommends 100mcg/day as the upper limit. Therefore, the amount of vitamin D in Calci-D chewable tablets (25mcg) is much lower than this upper limit. There is no evidence to suggest that this additional amount constitutes any additional risk, and as such there is no direct danger associated with the use of this product without the supervision of a doctor. During pregnancy the daily intake should not exceed 1,500 mg calcium and 600 IU vitamin D. Studies in animals have shown reproductive toxicity of high doses ofvitamin D (see section 5.3). In pregnant women, overdoses of calcium andColecalciferol should be avoided as permanent hypercalcaemia has been related toadverse effects on the developing fetus.
