About this deal

In this story, an influential musician disappears, and later found dead, after a New Year’s Eve party that he was hosting. This is basically a closed door mystery because it takes place on a small Welsh island and practically the entire town was at the party. Now, Ffion has to find the murderer in an island full of suspects. The Last Party is a dark delight of a murder mystery! More entertaining than any party I've ever thrown. A chilling buffet of brutal murder, laced with grudges, jealousy and revenge. Whatever you do this summer, get yourself an invite! -- JANICE HALLETT Ffion yawns. “Exactly. He targets you for no apparent reason, and the only difference between you and the rest of the office is…” She looks around the room, where every officer has one thing in common. They’re white. Eventually, we will discover the truth. And, these two cops were going to be a part of working to find this truth. Absolutely gripping. A wonderful sense of place, great cast of characters and a policewoman I'm looking forward to reading about again -- FANNY BLAKE

Make sure to read the interview with the author. And the publisher has wisely included discussion questions as this would make a very interesting book club selection. I absolutely inhaled this insanely gripping and atmospheric thriller. DC Ffion Morgan and her English counterpart Leo Brady are up there with the greats -- ERIN KELLY There’s been snow on the peaks since before Christmas, and even with the protection from the mountains, the temperature in the town hasn’t climbed above freezing. The lake itself is bitter. Colder than last year! People gasp, at once gleeful and incredulous. We must be mad! Fantastic, drily humorous and layered, a wonderful introduction to Detectives Leo and Ffion‘ LJ ROSSThe narrator of the audiobook did an excellent job. When I switched to audio from the print version, I particularly enjoyed hearing the pronunciation of Welsh words and names (which were completely different from the voice in my head!). This book is deeply layered, with all the connections and relationships that are going on. Things we think are true, are not and some things we never even considered are happening right in front of us. Everyone in this book seems like they have a motive and the author kept me guessing until the very end! Everyone in this book has a secret, and Rhys has the most! It gets the blood flowing, the community spirit popping and overall, is a solid way to start the first day of a new year.

DC Ffion Morgan, from Cwn Coed, will team up with a DC from the English-side of the lake, Leo Brady. A match made in heaven, IMO. The snark and chemistry between these two characters gripped me from the very start, which made for a super fun investigatory aspect. This book started strong but midway it felt as things somewhat stalled. Making it feel rather long.🤷‍♀️ Superb. A compelling murder mystery told with warmth, humor and enough red herrings to keep even the most seasoned crime reader guessing." ― C.L. Taylor, author of SleepThe underlying theme isn’t my favorite: men and the rich behaving badly. But the setting, the detectives, and the fact the author surprised me (twice!) more than made up for it. A popular entertainer, Rhys Lloyd vanishes from a new-years’ eve party, only to be found washed up on the shore by morning. Who would possibly want this famous showman dead? But now, as the investigation digs deeper, the larger question becomes... who wouldn’t!? Detectives Leo and Ffion make a storming debut in this twisty, cleverly-layered tale of worlds colliding." ― Belinda Bauer, author of Snap

Brilliant, so atmospheric. I fell in love with courageous, complicated DC Ffion Morgan and I think readers will too -- RUTH WARE Opera singer Rhys Lloyd has inherited land from his father in Wales and has joined together with a partner to build The Shores, a swanky lakeside housing development with exclusive vacation homes for wealthy English families, much to the consternation of the Welsh residents of Cwm Coed. When Rhys's body is found dead in the lake after a New Year's Eve party that included both Welsh and English residents, DC Leo Brady from the English side and DC Ffion Morgan from the Wales police join forces to try to figure out who killed Rhys and why. The most richly accomplished of the brothers’ pairings to date—and given Connelly’s high standards, that’s saying a lot.A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy.

There is a town full of suspects. Secrets long hidden will be revealed. I loved the team of DC Ffion Morgan and DC Leo Brady . . . Great storytelling with a motley crew of characters * PRIMA * If you like a huge cast of suspects, a bunch of potential suspects with motives (many were boring though), and lots of misdirection, you may enjoy this one. Just know it is a long, drawn out one and you need to pay attention!

His lakeside holiday homes are a success, and he’s generously invited the village to drink champagne with their wealthy new neighbours. This will be the party to end all parties. Bobby is having an affair with Mia Williams, a friend of Ffion’s and the maid for The Shore Resort. Their relationship lasts and they are together at the end of the book
