About this deal

Breathability and waterproofing are both good, keeping you dry in light to moderate rain without causing you to drastically overheat. Capable of shrugging off mud and rain, these water-resistant trousers come with an environmentally friendly PFC-Free durable water repellent (DWR) finish, although that will need re-spraying from time to time with one of the best waterproof treatments. More breathable: my blending cotton with other materials such as polyester, biker chinos allowed your body to breathe and stay fresh

Bulletproof' is something that most cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts like the sound of... not because we tend to be in the firing range, thankfully; but because it would be safe to assume that something that can withstand bullets, should be able to withstand the rigours of outdoor pursuits. OK, so the Spoke Bulletproof Chinos probably (definitely) aren't actually bulletproof; even less so than Kevlar puncture protection strips... however, they are stunningly well made, and built to last. I pretty much do the same thing going to the pub, except I skip the jersey and wear something more normal as my top layer. Osloh have done a great job in producing cycling denim jeans that are strong, stretchy and practical. The starting point has to be the water and dirt repellent fabric. British roads, and particularly inner city roads, are a minefield of dirt and grime. Add precipitation to the mix, and your pristine work trousers aren't going to enjoy the outcome when you cycle in them. The water and dirt repellent fabric in the Spoke Bulletproof Chinos means that the water beads up, and slides off; helping you to stay looking smart. They aren't waterproof trousers, and thankfully don't look like them either; this is hidden and discrete, but highly useful protection from the elements. What’s more, chinos are typically some of the most stylish trousers around, which means that they’ll look good at your destination – whether that be the office or meeting up with friends. Chinos for Cycling: Key Features Decathlon does the cycling basics at a bargain price and its BTwin range includes some of the best-value waterproof cycling trousers you can buy. This all depends on the fabric they are made from and if there is any surface treatment. You'll find that most durable water-repellent treatments will wash off after a while and you will need to re-apply a DWR treatment to rejuvenate their waterproofing. Although this makes them less useful on the bike, they look more "normal" off it and the fabric's stretch makes for comfortable riding.

If you want a trouser that pulls on over the top of shoes, these aren't the best option; they have an interior gaiter that gets in the way. The gaiter has benefits though; the Nightvisions are good at keeping the cold air out on wintery days. If you’re commuting by bike, the good news is that cycling in chinos is one of your best options when it comes to full-length pants. That’s because chinos tend to be lighter and more breathable than many other types of trousers (such as jeans, khakis and waterproof pants). Designed for general outdoor activities, Rapha's Men's Explore Pants don't aim to be fit for just cycling. They're made from a stretchy nylon fabric which gives excellent freedom of movement. The lightweight material is abrasion resistant and DWR treated too so it's water repellent. Plus, the shorter leg length and ankle adjustment means you can keep them away from muddy shoes and filthy chains. As they're not cycling-specific there's not any reinforcement to high-wear areas like the crotch so they won't stand up to regular riding as well as other more dedicated trousers. My current favorites are Pearl Izumi Versa, and Patagonia Quandary. The latter is a bit heavy and overly hot when temperature exceeds about 5 °C / 41 °F. I also have trousers from Prana and Outdoor Research that look the part and work well.

To sum up, Spoke seem to have created a pair of chinos that are cycling specific, but smart enough for the boardroom. From the quality fabric, to the fit and features; the Bulletproof Chinos might well be the only piece of 'riding kit' I've got, which I would happily wear to any off-the-bike occasion. Comfort is of the utmost importance when considering a new pair of cycling pants—gravitate toward pairs that don’t restrict movement and will accommodate any extra padding and chamois you’ll wear underneath. While baggy and loose-fit pants might be comfortable when lounging at home, on a bike, they’re irksome and can cause sagging and snagging on a ride. A great pair of cycling pants will be form-fitting and tapered, so as to not hinder movement, or worse, get caught in your drivetrain. Cycle Centre Congleton Limited 2021. Cyclestore is a trading name of Cycle Centre Congleton Limited. All Rights Reserved Company No. 05107467 | VAT No: 593 733 507 The Tracey Neuls are genuinely comfortable shoes for wearing on and off the bike; they allow for effective pedalling, look smart enough to wear with office clobber and have that reflective bonus. They're well-made, high-quality designer shoes, and worth the investment. The London Design Museum called them 'beautiful shoes for an active life' and that's just what they are. If you're after smart city cycling and walking shoes that add to your after-dark safety arsenal, they're well worth considering.

Scottish brand Endura knows a thing or two about foul weather, and its Hummvee II water-resistant trousers are designed exactly to deal with it. Read more: BTwin 100 City Cycling Rain Overtrousers full review Advice Do waterproof bicycle commuter pants stay waterproof? I'm pretty much the target audience for this. I cycle nine miles each way nearly every work day, to a business casual office, and don't want to faff around changing trousers when I get to work. Good trousers for this are the Holy Grail of bikewear. The Rapha Technical Trousers are available in a range of sizes and leg lengths. There's no women's version though.

All of the above features and fabric have been tailored into a chino that is cut to a very personal level. With Spoke trousers, you can choose your individual waist and inseam, and then select one of three 'builds' to ensure your trousers are as close to your leg profile as possible. The result, is that the cut of the Bulletproof Chinos is superb; making them even more comfortable to wear. George writes: "The first thing to note about them is that they don't look any different to a normal pair of jeans, at first glance, anyway. Just below the knees there are two more seams than usual, there's an extra panel on the crotch, and on the waistband, an additional loop. The Omnias achieve the freedom of movement vital for riding through a 98% denim and 2% elastane fabric mix, which helps them keep their shape well like non-cycling jeans, but also have some stretch that lets them move comfortably with the pedal stroke, with little resistance.
