About this deal

Within the ship in the Emperor's Key, Astral lies in a Sphere Field, thinking about the powerful Over-Hundred "Numbers" that the Barians have used, that can even transform into " Number C" monsters. With their current power, he knows there's no guarantee he and Yuma will win next time they encounter the Barians (in the dub, Astral thinks that he and Yuma will not be able to beat the Barians until he finds a way to get stronger). Hearing something, Astral floats upright and the Sphere Field vanishes. All of the " Number" pillars are glowing and Astral wonders if they're trying to tell him something. Number 96 appears behind him, commenting that his fight against the Barians doesn't seem to be going too well. Astral insists that Number 96's power was sealed. Number 96 says that's true, but it doesn't mean he will obey Astral (in the dub, Number 96 states that Astral was wrong about seeing the last of him). He suggests that Astral allow him to lend his powers against the Barians. Astral responds that he'd never borrow power from someone like Number 96. Laughing, Number 96 says Astral has yet to recover the true memories of the "Numbers". He suggests Astral try to listen again - to him and the other "Numbers". (in the dub, Number 96 says that he knows that Astral has been stumbling around in the dark, and reasserts that Astral does not have the strength to fight the Barians alone--he needs Number 96's help) Number 96 insists that wherever there is light, there is also darkness, vanishing. Roland is an Immortal Guardian. Immortal Guardians hunt vampires and protect humans from the vampires. Roland finds himself in a bad situation when he gets ambushed and tied down. He's in the process of getting tortured to death when he's unexpectedly saved but a woman he's never met before. Who were you supposed to call when you thought someone was torturing wild animals? 911? Animal control? Throughout the Bible, we can find a connection between darkness and dawn. Some of the verses reference the actual process in nature of night changing to morning, used either to proclaim God’s power or to indicate a passage of time.

I’m writing from experience here. I am not just crepuscular, but matutinal – one who glories in the dawn. Thanks to a young son who would rather read about the technicalities of anthropomorphised steam engines at 5am rather than, oh, I don’t know, get a humane amount of sleep, I see a lot of sunrises. During July and August there is something quite strange about getting to 9am, as everybody else’s day is just grinding into gear, and realising that not only have you already been up for four hours but the sun is now high in the sky, wasps are shagging on top of fallen plums and the milk on your doorstep will have lost its beads of condensation.

Twilight Around the Poles

When I lie down I think, ‘How long before I get up?’ The night drags on, and I toss and turn until dawn.” Job 7:4 Starting violently, Sarah gripped the wooden handle of the shovel and stared at the heavy undergrowth in front of her with wide, unblinking eyes.

Oh yeah. A few hours of this and she would definitely collapse into an exhausted slumber. Screw you insomnia! The spring semester was over. Her students were gone. She was going to sleep tonight if it killed her. Heather Adams is an author, speaker, and singer living in Connecticut. Heather’s passion is to equip and encourage believers to seek more of God’s truth and to experience more of His joy each day. Her book, Bow Down: The Heart of a True Worshipper is a practical, 30-day devotional about worship based on the writings of King David. Heather's blog, Worship Walk Ministries, offers weekly Scripture passages and insights to ponder. A native New Englander, Heather is settling into her home in the South, trying out local foods and watching for the alligators that live nearby! The author also felt it was important to mention that the Immortals used "environmentally safe dishwashing soap". When I read this part, I was cranky and hadn't had my morning coffee yet. You can imagine for yourself how well that particular line was received. You'll love the characters...all of them; Roland and Sarah, Seth, David and Marcus; and all the others. Around the North Pole and the South Pole, each day-night cycle spans an entire year. In the summer, the poles experience Polar Day or Midnight Sun, when the Sun is up in the sky for several months; in the winter, during the Polar Night, the Sun does not rise for several months. Actually, I think the "immortal" guy is really only 30 years old. It just feels like he's been around forever because he won't shut up about the evils of Monsanto and the genetically altered corn and wheat seeds they sell. That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok...So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.” Genesis 22,24

This book irked me. Other reviewers have mentioned the organic diets of the main characters. I would rather say the pretentious diets of the main characters, which were ineptly thrown at the reader at every opportunity. My second and more legitimate gripe is the characters. Bland, boring, and in the case of the main female, annoying. At higher latitudes, in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the Sun's path makes a lower angle with the horizon, so the twilight phases last longer: In the interest of fairness, I will say that I really liked the author's efforts to explain vampirism/immortalism in terms of science and whatnot. It was pretty interesting, and on the surface, made a bit of sense. But the author pushed it too far when she tried to make this distinction using Sebastien, and tried to save him in the readers' eyes by pointing out, "Oh, look! He's one of us. He kills the bad, bad humans, and is trying to save the vampires." That's when it started verging on ridiculous. This attempt to "improve" Sebastien came across too strongly - very unsubtle - and I didn't appreciate it. Because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” Luke 1:78-79Perhaps what I enjoyed most was the wealth of great secondary characters. I’m really interested in learning more about Seth, David, Marcus and so many others. Dianne Duvall has crafted such a rich landscape that no matters she goes next, I want to follow.
