I’m talking about straight up using words that didn’t make sense in the context they were being used. There were moments I found myself thinking, “was this book originally written in a different language?” This book started off with a bang and I was hooked from chapter 1🪝 Grayson was in the army a few years before and one day he finds his Brest friend dead and that his wife has been cheating in him😬 I was thinking woow all this already okay I’m so ready for the rest😂 he moves to new York and meets a stranger in a bar and next minute he’s become a hitman for the mafia☠️ I didn’t want to put it down it kept me wanting more🫣 Well that was something, what a rollercoaster🎢 everything just went off all at once I didn’t know what to do with myself😂Two, our FMC has zero personality. Like absolutely none. There is no substance to her. She lives in this fantasy world where her entire personality is just wanting to fall in love and have a happily ever after. It's so cringe. And then multiple times in the book she acts completely out of character, for no reason. Like the situation with the ex? Wtf was that??? I think that’s where you’re going wrong, Sunshine. If a man wants you, he won’t stop until you are completely his. He will put the world at your feet and stop at nothing to see your smile light up the room. He will worship you.”

Ok, I really liked the first book in this series, but this book? This book was so freaking different I could swear it was a different author! Like what in the hell. The only criticism I have is that the length of the book should have been adjusted, but other than that, I have no other comments. During the day: If you have a flexible schedule, you may find it helpful to take breaks during the day to read a book.

This book was different than Distance, as I felt like it was more focused on their relationship with each other and less on the MMA or Mafia ties. The plot is missing a lot, little scattered. If you want smut though, this is your book. Maddie’s character development is definitely there, as she struggled with being a people pleaser despite her sassy efforts. SummaryFrom 50% till the end everything went off bombs dropping everywhere💣 I didn’t know what to do I was on the edge of my seat 🫣 all the secrets started coming out and I couldn’t wrap my head around them🤯 and people not being who we thought they were through out the whole book🫠 the author had me feeling all types of things when reading this but I loved it😘🤌 and all the smut she just drops in there any chance she gets🍑🍆 This follows Maddie and Greyson. Greyson has been burned in his past so he has sworn off relationships. But a year ago Maddie stormed into his life with just one kiss that changed everything but they hate each out and can not stand each out. They fight each other at every turn but things get complicated when they get close again is it really hate? This book y’all! Angsty, fun and spicy. Detonate is book 2 of the Beneath The Mask series, featuring Grayson and Maddie. I could already feel their chemistry when they were first introduced in Distance. I was so looking forward to their story, especially after the many hot teasers Luna blessed us with. To say I was obsessed would be an understatement. Can we overcome our inner demons with only love? Sienna I’m newly single and determined to make New York City my permanent home, so I have no interest in dating for the foreseeable future.

This book definitely had potential and as I believe it’s this authors first release(?) I really think the author has a great baseline for a series. I’m not going to rate it star wise because honestly my feelings are all over the place but I wanted to at least add what I liked and didn’t like. The best time to read a book depends on your personal schedule and preferences. Here are some suggestions: When she’s not writing, you can usually find her with her nose buried in a savoury novel. Characters There were a lot of issues with the book that pulled me out of the story. It needed more time in a editor’s hands. There were a lot of typos/missed words/issues with tense. She used the phrase “blood curling” to describe a scream. The phrase is “blood curdling”. Things like that drive me up a wall.

As my rating indicates, this wasn’t for me. It got 2 stars because I finished it and didn’t immediately rant to anyone about it being a complete waste of time. Grayson uprooted his life from Chicago after a tragic betrayal by his ex-wife and best friend. He started over in New York training the heavyweight champion Keller and working for the mafia boss Luca. He believed love was not in the cards for him and set two rules: no kissing and no women for more than one night. This novel has just the right amount of intrigue while still having a great plot. I don’t want to give too much away since I think everyone who reads this should at least make an effort to be surprised by it.
