Description

The basic idea here is to transform the Ender 5 into a printer capable of producing quality prints with more temperature-sensitive filaments like ABS. We recommend enclosures that offer well-placed vents to move air away from these components like on the 3D UpFitters enclosure or allow you to house them outside the enclosure or away from the heat sources (nozzle and bed). Assembly and Storage We particularly like Pugwash’s Thingiverse version as it’s built to friction sit in the printer’s V-Slot perfectly, a novel way to use the space and fill a gap that all too often attracts bits of stray filament.

Bowden systems are notoriously prone to causing all kinds of trouble for the filament as it feeds into the extruder, especially flexibles which tend to bend, clog, and snap. The Ender 5 Pro’s design means the filament has very little support before the extruder. A 3D printed filament guide is a must-have upgrade to give your filament a fighting chance. Alongside an extruder upgrade, beefing up the Ender 5 Pro with a brand new nozzle can do wonders when working with abrasive filaments or as a way of extending the gap between nozzle replacements. There's no doubt the Creality Ender-5 S1 is a big step up from the Ender-5. This is a completely overhauled machine with so many additions that help dramatically boost the printer's performance. Whatever way you look at it, this is a DIY project, so assembly is very much hands-on with a good dose of problem-solving if you don’t go down the kit route – one for the experienced DIYers or motivated beginners out there. For users looking for a better high-temperature printing experience, an acrylic enclosure specifically designed for the Ender-5 S1 is available as an option for retaining the heat and keeping the print area free from drafts. Print bed leveling is a crucial part of the whole printing process. Creality’s CR Touch 16-point auto-leveling system is installed on the Ender-5 S1 by default, offering a hassle-free bed-leveling experience. E3D’s Titan extruder is among the most popular options and comes from a company with an established reputation for producing quality parts. The hotend features a titanium alloy heatbreak with low thermal conductivity, designed to prevent the onset of heat creep. The corrugated heat sink provides a larger surface area in a smaller volume for the silent axial flow fan to do its work, ensuring that the filament is cooled before reaching the hot zone. Corrugated fins. (Image credit: Creality) The enclosure works by retaining the heat from the bed to bring the ambient temperature up high enough so that ABS and other filaments that expand when they cool are stabilized. If your main concern is the smell of melting plastic, it can be mitigated using an optional carbon filter. But if you are more interested in improving overall indoor air quality, a better solution is to vent to the outside via a hose. (not included). If you just want the highest possible enclosure temperature for ABS just put on the included air vent cover and it'll heat up as hot as possible.

With the filament loaded, you can then follow the bed leveling process. The bed leveling utilizes the same process as the Ender-3 S1 Pro. This takes you through the leveling process of z-axis offset, then manual leveling, and finally, auto leveling. As I've seen with other Creality printers, the auto bed leveling is about the best I've come across. Features More a convenience upgrade than a performance mod, an SD Card extension can tweak the Ender 5 Pro to accept full-sized SD Cards rather than the easily lost and hard to manipulate micro SD Cards. Clearly, there is a market need for a 3D printer enclosure, and there are a lot of solutions, both DIY and off-the-shelf. Many of these solutions offer great integrated features such as ventilation flaps, tool holders and integrated lights. Some even include layers to contain fires, should one break out while the printer is unattended. Official Creality Ender 5 enclosure It’s a better-made tent enclosure that’s even easier to assemble with enough room to act as an Ender 5 Plus enclosure alongside the smaller Ender 5 and Pro.As you’ve probably guessed, it’s very much a hands-on project that involves custom measurements, troubleshooting, and some planning, but as DIY projects go, it’s one of the easiest. While you can piece together your own DIY solution and potentially cut costs, Creality conveniently offers its own manufactured solution designed to fit the Ender 5, Ender 5 Pro, and Ender 5 Plus.
