Pineda, Rafael Antonio. "Final Evangelion Film Opens at #1 in Japan". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on March 16, 2021 . Retrieved March 16, 2021. viewers might be moved to tears. The journey is one that has taken many years to get to with the film going through plenty of big production The Acclaimed Final Installment of the Historic “EVANGELION” Property to Home Entertainment Platforms Director Kazuya Tsurumaki details Anno wanted to try a new process for the film. Instead of first creating storyboards and then developing the animation based on them as is traditional, Anno proposed to first draw the animation cels and then draw the scenes from them. This technique was generally referred to by staff as "pre-visualization". [52] He was once more inspired from the usual process in live action, where scenes are first shot from multiple angles and then stories are created and then selected during editing. The latter half of the film, however, progressively returned to the traditional anime style. [53] Tsurumaki noted the original intention was that "the first 80%" of the Rebuild series would be a "compilation" of the original anime series, and the changes would only start with the last film, in keeping with earlier comments in 2006 by producer Toshimichi Ohtsuki regarding the intention that only the ending would be a major departure from the series, as staff felt End of Evangelion could not receive a sequel, [54] and the Rebuild movies were not going to be "metaphysical" like the original anime, but rather "oriented towards entertainment". [55] This eventually changed, and major changes started happening as early as Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. [56] He also noted that the previously stated goal of "destroying Evangelion" through the character of Mari was entrusted to an external party. Anno would ask the opinion of many parts of staff, including those not involved in the actual film like office staff for their opinions on several nuances. [57] Anno's wife Moyoco Anno provided early designs for some characters. [58] Studio Ghibli also provided assistance to scenes set in the survivor's village. [59] For the village itself, Khara had a box model custom-built to orientate the artists, and Anno personally adjusted it to the smallest details like individual house layout, with road and utility posts to make it as realistic as possible. [60] [61] [62] Staff consulted with multiple professionals [63] and conducted research like sky-diving for maximum accuracy. [64] Seraki, Dimitri (November 5, 2019). Hideaki Anno has been the guiding force behind many classic anime series such as Nadia: The Secret of Blu Water and His and Her Circumstances. He’s also helmed notable live-action films like Shin Godzilla. Yet Neon Genesis Evangelion is still unquestionably his magnum opus, and it’s become his life’s work as well. Not content with the original series and features films, he’s also been supervising a radical re-envisioning of the entire franchise with the Rebuild of Evangelion films, the first of which was released in 2007, and the last of which finally appeared in 2021. Evangelion has been a work-in-progress for Anno since 1995, but it’s justifiably considered an anime classic in any of its iterations. Also includes a treasure trove of bonus content from the original Japanese Blu-Ray release, there are over 7 hours of content to be found on the Ultimate Edition on top of the classic dub including: The only case where the old versions are clearly superior is with Kowaru’s declaration to Shinji in episode 24. A single word has been changed in the new versions, which drastically alters the meaning of the line, and for no good reason. The context is clear with or without that line, so it doesn’t necessarily hurt the scene, but on the other hand, that makes changing it even less defensible. The final chapter of the Evangelion rebuild is the most visually sumptuous of the entire film series. There are so many a b 株式会社インプレス (June 9, 2021). "マリのモデルは誰⁉ エヴァの裏話満載、スタジオカラー公式ラヂオ公開". Put simply, more than two decades later, the animation for Evangelion still stands up remarkably well. Kuroda imbues the series with creativity and the production has a cinematic quality to it. The visuals are extraordinary. Note that episodes 21-24 are the Director’s Cut versions, which are designated as 21’, 22’, 23’, and 24’. The Animatic Collections were originally included in the Japanese Blu-ray release. They’re rough versions of each episode that were used as guides for voice recording. When compared to the final versions, they provide an interesting look at the production process for an animated television series. DISC FIVE: EVANGELION: DEATH (TRUE)² & THE END OF EVANGELION
