About this deal

The chain-drive gearing provides maximum cutting power, allowing for a 3x greater cutting force to be exerted by the blade. Telescopic tree pruners make neatening up your garden easy. They’re convenient, safe and easy to use; however, there are a lot of different styles to choose between. When cutting tree branches overhead with a telescopic pruner do not stand directly under the branches your cutting! I know this sounds a silly comment to point out but you will be surprised how complacent you get with overheadcutters. Safety first! Equipped with PowerGear™ X technology with a 3x gear transmission ensures clean and efficient cuts, allowing users to trim branches and crowns up to 32 mm in diameter. Figs on the other hand have soft, pliable wood, which cut cleanly and didn’t jam in the blades. The big leaves of fig trees tend to obscure the cutting head, making it hard to see, but the bright orange blade support made it easy to see where the cutting jaws were, whether the light was dim, or looking up almost into the sun where the glare made it hard to see clearly.

Designed for precise and powerful cutting, the PowerGear X™ tree pruners have an orange blade support for improved visibility, and the cutting head can be rotated so that the cutting angle can be adjusted up to 230°. The extending handle is made from aluminium making it lighter than other models to use. The blades are super strong and sharp and can easily cut through branches and growth up to 30mm in diameter. The angled head makes light work of cutting hard to get to branches and vertical growth. There’s an orange non-slip base at the end of the tool which allows for a better two-handed grip, but it does more than serve as a gripping surface. To further extend teach, it’s possible to hold the pole pruner near its base. But if you we that, how can we reach the sliding handle midway along the shaft you may ask?For shorter trees and bushes, look for telescopic tree pruners with a maximum extension length of around 2m, and a shorter setting closer to 1m . These heights will provide sufficient versatility without requiring the use of a ladder. It’s a good quality machine, and comes in three separate pieces to allow the length to be adjusted. The handle attaches to the end of one section, the saw to the end of the other, and then there is an additional extension piece. This pruner can be used without the extension, and will measure approximately 1.8 m, or with the extension, measuring 2.7 m. Not too heavy even when fully extended. Cuts very easily and made short work of lopping all the trees in my garden. Delighted/ The handle extends from 1.37 m to 2.5 m, so you can neaten up hedges as well as tall trees. Weighing just 1 kg in total, it’s easy to use these pruners comfortably for long periods of time.

Having tried different brands of extendable tree pruners iver a number of years, these Fiskars powergear ones are definitely the best. Long reach, light weight, sturdy mechanism. Recommend this product. Some telescopic/extendable pruners are manually powered. They have a ‘squeeze’ handle that causes the blades at the top to close and cut. As long as the blades are sharp enough, this shouldn’t be too hard on the hands. These manual pruners are usually best suited to cutting fresh, live stems/branches as opposed to woodier ones. They’ll work best on bushes, hedges and small, young trees. This model is perfect for garden fruit tree work, pruning tall climbing roses, wisteria etc where a longer reach is required. Unlike other models the cord is located inside the handle so there is no getting tied up in metres of cord laying around your feet. Optional saw blade available. Telescopic tree pruners are either motorised or manual. Which to choose will depend on what you’ll be cutting. The cutting mechanism is geared to provide additional mechanical advantage, making cutting up to 3 times easier than with standard mechanisms, allowing for effortless and exact high-level pruning. In the picture below, we can see that the newer model (at the top of the picture) has a larger plastic body attaching to the shaft, and the long orange blade support which helps place the blade onto high branches and see where the blade will make the cut from a distance away. The Fiskars UPX86 PowerGear X Telescopic Tree Pruner is a versatile tool designed to make maintaining trees an easy task. With an adjustable handle that can extend from 2.4 – 4 m, this pruner is the longest model featured on this list, and one of the best telescopic tree pruners for reaching higher branches in treetops. Combined with arms-reach, it will be able to access branches approximately 5 – 6 m high. The UPX86 long reach pruner has a whopping extra long reach of 4 metres fully extended, allowing for most tasks a home owner might need to do before calling out a tree surgeon. Add 4 metres to your own reach and it’s possible to reach 6m with this extended tree trimmer.

If also a good practice to sterilise pruning tools between different trees to avoid spreading diseases, and I use a water-alcohol mix and a paper kitchen towel for the purpose. The blades wiped clean effortlessly, returning them to their pristine, new appearance. Shaft length adjustable from 2.4m to 4m Maximum reach of 6m with a 230° adjustable cutting head Cuts fresh wood with a diameter of up to 32mm The handle is ergonomically shaped for comfortable holding, and has a durable, orange soft-grip coating that has an almost slightly rubbery grip.Remember that the further the pruner is extended, the harder it’ll be to control and use safely. Therefore, it’s best to only extend the pruner as far as necessary, depending on the job. The previous generation of Fiskars tree pruners were excellent tools, and the company’s continuous innovation has made them even better. The Fiskars UPX82 PowerGear X Tree Pruner met my expectations of what I look for in a quality tree pruner, and even exceeded them. This is a fantastic tool, and it comes highly recommended! Instead of allowing free adjustability between its lengths, you can only one of three positions: no extension, half extended or fully extended. Therefore, there are some limitations. In general, pole pruners come in two sizes. The shorter fixed length pole pruners are around 1.6m (5.5’) long, and are perfect for managing smaller trees up to 4m (12’) tall, whereas the longer telescopic pole pruners, which extend from 2.4m to 4.0m (8’-12’) long, can reach up to an incredible 6m (18’), but are a bit too long and unwieldy for smaller jobs. Branches up to approx 40mm diameter then a long reach pruner / telescopic lopper is fine. Anything larger then I would suggest a long reach saw. Both the Fiskars UPX86 and the Wolf Garten poles can also be fitted with a saw attachment for a bigger cut.
