About this deal

Alex Radcliffe, Marketing Controller at Greene King said: “We are thrilled to see Level Head and Flint Eye available on the shelves in Tesco and Sainsbury’s supermarkets across the UK and we can’t wait to see them being enjoyed by our consumers at home. Both of these award-winning beers are available in hundreds of pubs across the UK, so wherever you are, make sure to nominate your very own legend and treat yourself, and them of course, to a free pint!” Greene King has been awarded its first medals for its recently launched craft beers, Flint Eye and Level Head, and also Ice Breaker Pale Ale at the Bartenders’ Brand Awards this year. Ice Breaker Pale Ale is currently available in more than 2,000 Greene King pubs and also independent venues, as well as major supermarkets including Tesco, ASDA, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Waitrose and Ocado. Level Head is a session IPA that is light in body, but slightly dry with a medium bitterness and pithy aftertaste and has an aroma sitting somewhere between tropical and grapefruit notes. The Session IPA’s name is a nod to the legend of St Edmund, the brewery’s hometown’s Patron Saint, who was beheaded by Vikings in 869. St Edmund’s head was miraculously reunited with its body by a ghostly wolf and his sainthood was secured.

In 2022 Greene King Brewery launched a range of premium craft beers including, Level Head, a session IPA (4% ABV), and Flint Eye, a dry hopped lager (4.5% ABV), which were inspired by, and celebrate, Britain’s eccentric past, but are designed for the modern-day drinker. A west coast IPA, Western Zeph, and oatmeal stout, Subterranea, were also created as limited-edition brews that will be available seasonally. Greene King’s second new IPA offering is the limited edition 5.4% Western Zeph West Coast IPA. This cutting-edge IPA is brewed using brand-new Harlequin and Godiva hops, as well as CF184, a hop so new it doesn’t have a name yet.

Will Hemmings, Brewing & Brands Marketing Director at Greene King said: “According to our data, a pint of beer is the best drink to enjoy with a best mate, so we feel it’s only right that our customers can enjoy a free Flint Eye or Level Head with the legend in their life. Greene King was founded in 1799 and is headquartered in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. It currently employs around 40,000 people across its five divisions: Local Pubs; Destination Food Brands; Premium, Urban and Venture Brands; Pub Partners; and Brewing & Brands. Greene King brewing and brands marketing director Will Hemmings said: “Our new range of premium craft beers is inspired by Greene King’s 200-year heritage; but the recipes and tales have been reimagined for the modern craft consumer of today.”

Brewer and Pub chain Greene King has announced the addition of four new premium beers to their portfolio, as the brand look to expand into the craft beer market for 2022.Greene King has launched four new beers that reflect the brewery’s 200 year-old history along with the far older history of its home town, Bury St Edmunds. The pale ale’s name was born from the freedom given to apprentices to break boundaries of brewing within Greene King and develop the beer of their choice. The brewer also announced in January that seasonals ales will be available also in cask pins of 36 pints, later this year, which will support in offering more variety on the bar and with throughput in quieter periods of the week. Will Hemmings, Brewing & Brands Marketing Director, said: “Our new range of premium craft beers is inspired by Greene King’s 200-year heritage; but the recipes and tales have been reimagined for the modern craft consumer of today.

According to the data, Brits are dedicated to their best mates, with 63% describing them as a ‘legend’, and nearly a third (28%) saying they would happily lie for a friend. Trust is also the number one quality people look for with 41% of respondents voted it as the most important attribute in a best bud, followed by a good sense of humour (15%). We’ve twisted and adapted traditional flavour profiles and channelled some of Britain’s colourful folklore to create authentic, modern, and exciting beverages, perfect for a new urban audience right across the UK.” The beers will be available on draught in selected Greene King pubs as well as in bottle. The range includes Flint Eye, a dry hopped lager named after a Neolithic flint arrow head found in the town. Western Zeph, a West Coast-style IPA is brewed with Godiva and Harlequin Hops, plus CF 184, a new hop that doesn’t yet have a name. Subterranean is an oatmeal stout based on a recipe dating from 1926 and takes its name from tunnels that once led from the local abbey to the brewery. The two new craft beers, designed for a modern-day drinker, are a homage to Greene King’s 200 years of brewing heritage and the historical myths and legends of Bury St Edmunds, the home of the Greene King brewery.
