Description

At this time, there were scarcely four hundred Flesh Tearers left, and during the Cryptan War more than half of the Chapter's number -- some five under-strength companies -- were deployed in the war zones of Armageddon. Finally, the Dark Angels have recently been joined by a leonine celebrity from days of yore. Yep, it’s Lion El’Jonson. If you missed out on the Lion and Retinue box, you won’t have long until the Lord of the First gets a solo release. We had hoped he would make his individual debut before the new edition came out. However, we also wanted to ensure enough had been made to fulfil demand for such an incredible model. We’re making more, and we will therefore be putting him up for sale as one of the first Warhammer 40,000 miniatures released after Leviathan drops. Zargo snarled in frustration, asking the High Chaplain, did they actually need the Flesh Tearers. Astorath replied, that they did. The Emperor in His infinite wisdom created many sons, each of differing aspect. Zargo was their zeal, Malakim their redemption and Sentikan their protector. If Dante was their conscience, then they should let Seth be their blade. They should let the Flesh Tearers be the teeth of that blade. Turning to regard the Flesh Tearers Chapter Master, Astorath continued, explaining that even though Seth was a wretched berserker and his actions were ill-considered and rash, they were in need of such mongrels if they were to triumph. For the first time in two solar days, silence filled the vastness of the chamber. Behind the unreadable visage of his death mask, Dante smiled. Wars, he knew, were won with weapons, not principles. Gabriel Seth was nothing if not a weapon.

War of the Beast (544-546.M32) - The Flesh Tearers were one of many Space Marine Chapters to participate in the defence of the Imperium against the largest Ork WAAAGH! seen to that time during the War of the Beast. The Flesh Tearers is a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter and the smallest Second Founding successor of the Blood Angels, once numbering only four full companies of Astartes at their nadir before the Devastation of Baal.

Relics

After their official formation, the Flesh Tearers immediately left Terra to embark upon a new Imperial Crusade to eliminate Traitor forces still loyal to the Warmaster Horus as well as continuing to purge Chaos infestations from Imperial worlds during the period known as the Great Scouring.

Due to the Chapter's constrained size, each company was capable of maintaining sufficient resources in its armoury to equip its members with the gear necessary to fulfil any of these roles effectively. The master of the Exsanguinators interrupted the Flesh Tearer's reply. He bristled with rage at how Seth had handled another situation with an upstart Inquisitor by the name of Corvin Herrold. When the Inquisitor had boarded the flagship of the Flesh Tearers, seeking audience with the Chapter Master, he was there to inquire about the events that had occurred at Honour's End in 837.M41, when the Flesh Tearers and the Space Wolves had gotten into a bloody confrontation with one another on the world of Lucid Prime after the Flesh Tearers had continued their indiscriminate slaughter of civilians even after the Chaos Renegades had been driven away. When the Flesh Tearers Chapter was brought into being during the Second Founding, Captain Nassir Amit, the commander of the Blood Angels Legion's 5 th Company, was chosen to be its first Chapter Master. Of all the IX th Legion's captains, Amit's reputation -- and that of his company -- was the most bloodthirsty. More than once, the 5 th Company had been called to censure by Sanguinius for its zeal in pursuing enemy forces. The Dark Angels don’t focus on a particular style of combat, choosing instead excellence in all forms of war. Despite their mastery of plasma weapons, swordplay, and high-speed interdiction, it’s their unshakable Grim Resolve that they’re truly famed for – a dour and practical outlook to warfare. For all his efforts to challenge the commonly held perceptions of his Chapter as berserk butchers, Gabriel Seth is every bit the bloody whirlwind when he plunges into battle. The Lord Commander warned Seth that anger and despair had seen the end of Nassir. Seth sighed, sobered by Dante's words. Nassir Amit had been the first of the Flesh Tearers' Chapter Masters. A brutal, vicious warrior, his deeds were great and many. He had fought in the Great Crusade and conquered Cretacia, the world Seth now called home. Amit had been the best of them before his thirst for blood and violence had consumed him. Seth explained to the council that he had stood consumed by darkness and led an army of monsters in defence of the light. He had done what must be done to ensure the future of his Chapter. Blood Angels Painting Guide - Sons of Sanguinius (Supplement), pp. 54-56, 58-59, 66, 70-71, 74, 171, 182, 185, 284, 296, 337-338, 342, 344, 347-348, 350-351 Nassir Amit, Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers, during the Declaration of Conquest, Cretacia, 238.M31

The Flesh Tearers defend the Shield Worlds of the Cryptus System from the encroaching Tyranids during the Cryptus Campaign Despite his intentions, Seth has done little to dispel the mistrust of his staunchest critics. Yet such things are of little concern to the Flesh Tearers Chapter Master, for, in his heart, Seth never truly abandoned hope that the Flesh Tearers can be spared from ultimate oblivion.

Since that day, Mephiston has risen swiftly through the ranks of the Blood Angels and now holds the office of Chief Librarian. He is a figure of awe and reverence to most of his Battle-Brothers, who perceive him as a saviour in these times of woe.

Praying for these lost sons of Sanguinius, Astorath proceeded with his grim task, and soon managed to kill all five of the cursed brethren. With their deaths, Astorath unfurled a length of the tapered parchments hanging from his armour, recording each of the names as he dragged their corpses into a pile. Such warriors as these would never receive a proper burial, and would not be remembered in the annals of their Chapter. Their names would missing from the Hall of Heroes. They were lost, and they must remain so. It was Astorath, and him alone, who would remember them. Of all the Sons of Sanguinius, this chapter has pretty much fully embraced the whole “Space Vampire” thing to the point of where they have adopted their most well known practice into their name. Yes, they drink blood, no that’s not Kool-Aid. It’s done in a ritualist manner but that really doesn’t make it any less creepy. Why do they drink blood? Well it’s got something to do with their Omophagea– the organ known as the “Remembrancer” which allows them to “learn by eating.” Acata Uprising (371.M41) - The Flesh Tearers ruthlessly crushed what was later determined to be a xenos-inspired uprising amongst the void-clans of the Acata Ring. The Flesh Tearers utilised specialised void combat battle rites to fight across the airless surface of the asteroids and to cross from one to the next, systematically destroying the foe in a series of focused and coordinated, yet brutal and bloody assaults. But even that’s not the whole truth. That “Angel” turned out to be a daemon – the implication is that it was Kairos Fateweaver. Why would he do this? Because now the chapter is teetering on the brink of becoming slaves to chaos.

Da Red Gobbo Goes Sneaky…

Mephiston arrived on the Blood Angels' Shrine World of Sabien to judge Arkio, and turned the powers of his formidable witch-sight upon him. He saw the carefully hidden seed of Chaos that Stele had planted inside Arkio and denounced the "Reborn Angel" as false and Inquisitor Stele as a Heretic. Mephiston then challenged Arkio to a duel but before it began, Arkio's biological brother Sergeant Rafen, a fellow Blood Angel, arrived and offered to challenge him instead. Rafen was one of the few Blood Angels of the 6th Company who had doubted the veracity of Arkio's supposed resurrection, keeping faith with the Emperor and their Primarch, and formally denounced his brother as false. Halo of Thorns - The Flesh Tearers Chapter Master has the honour of wearing this ancient Iron Halo, a sacred relic of his Chapter known as the Halo of Thorns. For millennia, the world has provided an ideal residence for the Chapter. Nearby Imperial worlds benefited from the stability offered by a successful Space Marine Chapter. The Flesh Tearers maintained an adequate initiation pace so that their company sizes were well within the recommendations of the Codex Astartes. This proclivity extends throughout the Chapter from the leadership elements to the newest recruits. As such, when preparing for an engagement, the Flesh Tearers' commanders generally plan their tactics in a way that takes advantage of this tendency, instead of attempting to fight against it. As the warring armies close upon one another and vicious firefights erupt, the Codex lays out strategies for swiftly seizing the initiative and combining versatility with firepower. While this combat doctrine is active, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of every Rapid Fire and Assault weapon that models in this unit are equipped with by 1.
