Description

A child's dose is based on age and some forms of loratadine are not for use in children younger than 6 years old. Carefully follow the dosing instructions provided with this medicine.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to loratadine: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.Loratadine is rapidly and well-absorbed. Concomitant ingestion of food can delay slightly the absorption of loratadine but without influencing the clinical effect. The bioavailability parameters of loratadine and of the active metabolite are dose proportional. During long-term treatment there were no clinically significant changes in vital signs, laboratory test values, physical examinations or electrocardiograms. If you have severe liver problems your doctor or pharmacist may advise you to take the recommended amount every other day. If this applies to you, follow their instructions.

Approximately 40% of the dose is excreted in the urine and 42% in the faeces over a 10 day period and mainly in the form of conjugated metabolites. Loratadine, the active ingredient in Loratadine 10 mg Tablets, is a tricyclic antihistamine with selective, peripheral H1-receptor activity. Try to take loratadine at about the same time every day. Choose a time that is easy to remember. What if I forget to take it?

9. Common questions about loratadine

Patients with severe liver impairment should be administered a lower initial dose because they may have reduced clearance of loratadine. An initial dose of 10 mg every other day is recommended for adults and children weighing more than 30 kg. If you take too many tablets: Talk to a doctor straight away. Go to your nearest hospital casualty department. Take your medicine and this leaflet with you. Do not give this medicine to a child younger than 2 years old. Always ask a doctor before giving a cough or cold medicine to a child. Death can occur from the misuse of cough and cold medicines in very young children.
