If you want to start with the routine then start with the waking at 7 and it should fall into place from there with the napping and night time routine. Then work on the feeding routine though I must admit we demand fed (is there any other way?) so I couldn't advise you on getting the feeding into the strict routine. Well, I think that The Contented Little Baby Book is really like a best practice manual, written by someone who has done the job of caring for many, many babies – and she is telling you what generally works. My Ds was a bit slower to take to it, and its a bit tougher to organise two. I just kept trying to keep him on schedule. And Gina Ford’s routine, which is segmented into reassuring week by week, hour by hour instruction, taught us all how. Gina’s first appointment was to help a mother whose baby had sleeping problems and Gina’s years of hands-on experience led her to solve this particular family’s problems within a few weeks. On the strength of this gift with babies, and her proven practical ability, she was recommended to other families and her reputation escalated. For years she was one of the most sought-after maternity nurses, specialising in caring for newborn babies and toddlers with serious sleeping and feeding problems. She would live with families for anything from two weeks to six months, and was on duty 24 hours a day, six days a week. During this period Gina was nominated by Harpers & Queen as one of the top ten maternity nurses in the country. She worked in many parts of the world with hundreds of different families, from leading lawyers and high-flying bankers to newspaper editors and other media personalities.

But, by the time he was 6 months, l could put both babies up to their beds and leave them to self settle with no crying, ever...at 7.00pm. Give yourself a couple of days to get started. The hardest part is the first day. If I were you start on a day when Harry is still asleep or naturally awake at 7.20/7.30 and has had a good few hours sleep beforehand Gina believed passionately in not only nurturing the child, for which she had a particular talent, but also ensuring that the mother was well cared for too. I'm glad that we do follow a routine; helped with my sanity and my daughters. Ford believes you should follow the controlled crying method, I wasn't really into that too much. I use to let my

ps - many people on here are v anti Gina, and if you have a tiny/hungry/temperamental baby, I can't imagine it would work in any way. Also, if you are remotely inclined towards co-sleeping/attachment parenting type strategy, I think it's virtually impossible to marry the two ideologies. If he wakes after 2/3am but before 7am and appears to be hungry, give him a couple of ounces, then top him up at 7am.

Regarding your specific issue (EMW) i think the morning nap, as said in other posts, is key and it will be difficult to push it but do it slowly (5 min at the time every 2-3 day). So it will take TIME to achieve the 9.30am which means that EMW will take time to correct. Babies don't have regular sleep cycles until around 6 months old, according to the AAP. While you can't force babies to be predictable in the first few months, you can develop a consistent routine that's in sync with your baby's natural rhythms. The easiest way to develop a regular bedtime is to create a bedtime routine that you and your baby can depend on night after night. This method is also found to help with crying for some parents. After a few weeks, your baby should only be crying when she’s filled her nappy or isn’t well, so you know how to respond to her tears. How to manage it

What is the Gina Ford method?

I haven't followed gina ford.....haven't heard about her till now! Lol But my baby started sleeping through the night from 3months old. I started putting him into his cot in his own room rather then have him in a moses basket in my room. That was the turning point for me. I got him an aqua mobile with lights and songs...a couple of teddies in the cot to look at and he has been a good sleeper from that point and he's now 14months old. I swear by Gina Ford. It annoys me when people criticise her without even knowing what she's about. She NEVER tells you to leave a baby to go hungry. She also NEVER tells you that your baby has to wait until the desired times. She specifically tells you to assume that the baby is hungry if he wakes between 2.30am and 7am and tells you to feed him/her.
