About this deal

John Soden, CCO of Ginato owner Kirker Greer Spirits, said: “We have been blown away by the success of Ginato Italian Gin in every market it has entered so far, and our goal is to continue to build on that success as we introduce the product across Australia. The Australian drinks industry is extremely dynamic and we feel that Ginato will be a great addition to the Dan Murphy’s and BWS premium spirits portfolio.”

By expertly blending the finest Italian juniper berries, botanicals and grape, we have created a collection of wonderful gins that are both extremely unique and exude the true essence of Italy. You have to be brave to oak-age gin, but this tiny distillery on the island of Hven between Sweden and Denmark has pulled it off well. A light and wheaty gin, with a touch of sweet spice, the oak acts almost as a binding agent on which the other elements sit shyly. It’s textural rather than aromatic, but very smooth with a dry finish. Good Martini gin. Alc 40% Over the last decade, propelled by the expansion of the craft distilling industry, gin has had a veritable explosion of expressions. At last count there were more than 6,000 different expressions of gin and the number continues to increase each year. Ryan: We have used Nebbiolo, Barbera and Sangiovese grapes in our other flavor variants but our experience has been that the consumer instantly recognizes and connects with Pinot Grigio in a way they don’t with the other lesser known varieties. Pinot Grigio grape will now feature across the full Ginato Gin range including the pink grapefruit, clementine orange and pomegranate flavor variants. Also winning Gold Outstanding medals were Audemus Spirits, Pink Pepper Gin from France, Ginerei, The Coffee Gin from Austria, and Matsui Shuzo, the Hakuto Premium Matsui Gin.

Ginato Pompelmo Gin Details

We can’t wait to share his great enthusiasm for Ginato Gin and his love of everything Italian with consumers across the UK in the coming months and years ahead.’’ Classic Old Tom Gin from The House of Botanicals is a historic style of gin reminiscent of 18th century gins. These gins had sugar added to them to make them smoother and to mask undesirable flavors in the gin. The judging panel described the gin as: A vibrant, fresh colour with definite raspberry aromas. Like strolling through a bramble patch. On the palate, rich opulent fruit gives a sweet and sour character. Juniper undertones. A wonderfully well-made gin that delivers on flavour and character. Italian gin brand Ginato has gained listings with Australian drinks retailers Dan Murphy’s and BWS. The 43% ABV gins are distributed worldwide by Kirker Greer Spirits See also the Ginato Pinot Grigio Gin. This gin only won a gold rather than a Gold Outstanding but is worth pointing out for its innovative distillation. According to the company:

The Clementino expression adds clementine oranges to the blend, resulting in a ‘vibrant orange’ colour. Meanwhile, the Pompelmo expression is made from Sicilian pink grapefruit peel, giving the liquid a rose-pink tint.

Gins from Europe: 16 to try

Maybe it’s the greyhound on the label, but there’s a definite sleekness to Windspiel – perhaps down to the fact that its base spirit is made with potatoes. It’s super elegant: lots of juniper, citrus, candied lemon peel and a gentle hint of lavender on the finish, no sharp edges. The charm is its smooth, rich texture, made for an indulgent Martinez or (better) a quality Martini. Alc 47% There are all the gin elements a traditionalist would want – but seen through a Scandinavian filter. It’s like rolling a lemon in your hands in a cool pine forest. That vibrant pine element becomes sweeter and more heathery on the palate, with a high note of coriander dying away slowly on the finish. It’s elegant, highly drinkable, different and yet still respectful. Good as a Martini or a G&T. Organic. Alc 40.5% Kirker Greer recently expanded its team and named ex-Dead Rabbit bartender Peter Moore as global educator and ambassador across its portfolio, as well as Matt Bell as its operations manager. The genius of Ginato lies in its ability to maintain a delicate balance. It marries the boldness of gin with the subtlety of wine without letting one overpower the other. Drinkers are thus treated to a symphony of flavours, where the sharpness of juniper berries dances seamlessly with the smooth notes of Italian wine grapes.

Attractive pale pink colour. Sensational aroma with lashings of grapefruit on the nose. Good blend of floral and citrus on the palate, with a hint of coriander. Very well-constructed, with perfect sweetness and lingering aftertaste. Brilliantly complex and herbal on the nose, bursting with notes of peppermint tea and apple blossom. The palate offers a layered floral profile alongside fruitier characters. Bold, bright, and fabulously intriguing, demonstrating wonderful length and poise on the finish. Gorgeously light and fragrant on the nose with a juicy burst of fresh citrus on the palate. The beautifully blended botanicals open up like a summer flower to reveal glorious complexity and a delightfully long dry finish. A superb gin. Gin from Europe?’ you might be thinking. ‘Is nothing sacred?’ After all, gin is as proudly British as fish and chips, Tesco and Fray Bentons meat pies. This is correct – but only in so far as none of the above are strictly British inventions, either. The first chippie was set up by a Jewish immigrant, the first Tesco was established by the son of Polish arrivals, and Fray Bentos was first manufactured in Uruguay. Ginato Italian Gin has launched in more than 22 countries including the UK, Ireland, Germany, Israel, South Africa and Australia.

Winner of 1 spirit awards

In its vintage-style bottle it's a great Christmas gift for gin fans or Pinot Grigio fans and if you know someone who loves both... it's a no-brainer. Warm spices on the nose with hints of clove, nutmeg, spice and chocolate. The palate is led by cinnamon, pepper and liquorice that together have great balance and linger on the palate long after the sip. Continually developing. Chocolate and rich fruity berry notes, dried cherry and juniper coming through. Grape notes are on the palate with a little bit of spice and savouriness. A really nice balance of flavours from the gin and wine elements.

Richard Ryan: There is a beauty in variety and we use the grape in the base alcohol, combining a considered blend of grape and grain spirit. The grape spirit fundamentally provides a unique texture to the gin, and when we redistill our base spirit to make gin, we also add Pinot Grigio grape as one of the botanicals to bring about the underlying aroma and flavor of this most popular of wines. Combine this with Sardinian citrus and we land on a particularly clean, crisp, citrus-forward gin with hints of apple and pear from our grape choice.Crafted using the true essence of Italy - Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Barbera. These grape varieties can all be found in Italy’s finest growing regions that circumnavigate the idyllic lakes of the north. Opihr Aromatics Bitters Gin is a savory led gin with a distinctive bitter note from cascarilla bark, along with burnt orange and fragrant myrrh. The judging panel described it as: Designed to capture the true essence of Italy in it's ingredients and its tastes, the Ginato range also includes; Ginato Melograno which combines Barbera Grape and Sicilian pomegranates, Ginato Clementino which balances Nebbiolo grape and Clementine oranges, and Ginato Pompelmo created using Sangiovese Grape and Sicilian pink grapefruits. The Ginato collection is defined by its commitment to authentically representing Italian produce. Each variant in the range is meticulously crafted by distilling the gin with a specific type of Italian wine grape. This results in a distinctive flavour profile that not only reflects the character of the gin but also the nuanced notes of the grape it's distilled with.
