Description

It has that Gentlemen Only dryness, spice, and smokiness but those are relegated to bit players. It all comes together, as being super smooth. I really enjoy the way that it smells, even if the development isn’t too complex. Surprisingly, this isn’t too heavy of a scent. Smoky and dry woods, sounds more like a winter thing, but here it isn’t really. I would say that Gentlemen Only works best in moderate temperatures. It’s not terrible in winter, but I wouldn’t wear it in the summertime.

In 2013 Givenchy launched ‘Gentlemen Only’, a new interpretation of the masculine signature that was created with the modern man in mind. It is clear that the man of 1974 and the man of 2013 are two different beasts entirely, with the latter appearing as a more effeminate and well-groomed animal than the former. Gentlemen Only therefore, takes a fresher, spicier and more delicately aromatic view of the man that it represents. It’s as well made as Gentleman but it certainly cannot be considered as bold a fragrance or even as timeless. It’s not going to leave a huge scent trail. It will be noticed for a little while, but isn’t going to take over a room. Then, it’s not going to even do that. It’s one that I could definitely find a place for on occasion, but, at the price I could get something else that is a much better performer. It’s not a bad fragrance, actually quite good, but it could be magnificent. The composition is pretty inverted from the original. As such, you are hit with a different sensibility and less of the dry sweetness than Gentlemen Only. Intense presents itself as much more of a sweet/incense take on the original, that at times seems somewhat gourmand without going overboard (like in Very Irresistible by Givenchy) but keeping an underlying smokiness. As the citrus fades, it takes on more of a smoky type of aroma (think less of tobacco or a whiskey cask and more towards incense). Birch really becomes prominent on my skin, at this point. Again, to me, this is a nighttime fragrance. The original was more of the office type of daily wear, while this one is a sexier evening wear option. On a cold evening, Intense is actually really awesome, and will get complemented.

Overall, is this Givenchy product worth a try? I definitely like the scent, although, I seem to enjoy the Intense version more… BUT Gentlemen Only just does not last. Plus, the Intense version isn’t really ‘intense’ and is quite a different fragrance all together. Nowadays, in our large, diverse and colourful world of fragrances, a great deal of fooling around with the terms "extreme", "absolute" and "intense" is being done. OK, so after trying the original Gentlemen Only and enjoying it, (only to later be disappointed by its longevity), I was looking forward to trying the Intense version of this cologne. As it turns out, I actually like this one much better.Whoever expects something highly complex with several precious and rare ingredients and a shelf life (Intense!) from 0:00 to midnight is naturally disappointed, especially for the numerous niche noses the fragrance is nothing anyway. But if you like it warm and spicy with a certain sweetness and a touch of freshness and with an average shelf life of about 6 hours (much longer on clothes) and no roomy sillage, you are welcome to take it. I also found the Gentlemen Only without Intense quite pleasant. To win, simply let us know what you think makes the perfect gentleman in the comments below. Ends 4th May. UK only. However, the longevity on this one is really disappointing. After three hours or so I could no longer even detect it on my skin, I had sprayed some on my forearms, and got absolutely nothing from it. It’s so hard to find a good long lasting cologne sometimes.

The house Givenchy had launched a modern version of the original and iconic 70s fragrance Gentlemen (1974) entitled Gentlemen Only (2013). Gentlemen Only is an elegant woody fragrance that smells like woods of cedar, vetiver and patchouli. With the beginning of 2014, its enhanced version enters the market with an added touch of smooth leather. Gentlemen Only Intense, though, never loses its refinement and elegance. This Givenchy fragrance is one in which I could completely imagine myself applying while wearing a suit and even though I was wearing a t-shirt and jeans, I definitely felt quite fresh with it on.The fragrance is not very complex, top, heart and base notes are very close together and you can smell the rather sweet tonka base practically from the beginning. I’ve been trying out more and more colognes over the past few weeks and I recently got a hold of a couple scent by Givenchy. Gentlemen Only and Gentlemen Only Intense. In this post, I want to take a closer look at the former, and give my opinion and rate how this fragrance measures up. What is it composed of? What is the opening like? How does it smell? How long does it last? Please continue reading below for my full review of Gentlemen Only. Intense is basically nothing here, since the fragrance neither lasts unnaturally long nor spreads an unnaturally huge veil of scent. To represent the 21st century dandy is Australian actor Simon Baker, known for his role in the crime TV series The Mentalist.

Also, the opening has a citrus aroma provided by the mandarin note, that fades away during the dry down period. This mandarin and pink pepper give it the sweet/spicy undertones which helped to make Gentlemen Only quite appealing to my tastes.

Will you be claiming the VAT back?

It’s not a bad scent, it’s just that I was hoping for something similar to DHE, and the only thing this one has in common is the color of the juice.
