Also includes bonus stories! i really can't excuse awful writing and i can stomach it even less when the plot is that boring. let me be clear that this is not about the slow burn - which is the only valid romance - but literally everything else. i am still waiting for this to get better, as i was assured multiple times that it will, but i fear that when you said "70% in" you meant 70% into the whole *series* and not, as i foolishly believed, 70% into the book - which tbh would also be about 70% too much.

There's an entire chapter dedicated to depicting a woman, Xuan Ji, as "hysterical" because she rightfully got angry that a man used her and then threw her away. I thought this scene was misogynistic in the show, but the book made it worse through Xie Lian's inner commentary. He literally thinks of Xuan Ji as “overdramatic,” and just the way Xuan Ji was written reeks of misogyny.

Also I am a very plot focused person and only halfway did I realise there isn’t a big overarching plot, at least not for this first book. It was more about the “adventures” our main character got involved in (kind of reminded me of how animes are sometimes set up).the only reason i gave it 3 stars was bcs omg but San Lang aka Hua Cheng and Xie Lian were super cute with each other. 🥰 that's it. i mean, the protectiveness?? the "i'll carry you" moment 👀 iykyk - i loved that. their dynamic was chefs kiss, i can't wait to see how it develops!! YES! YES! For those who want a good slowburn and rainbows in their delicious fantasy cereal each morning! Oops, sorry, I completely forgot about the point of this review. Which is kind of my point. Heaven Official’s Blessing has a very languid and meandering pace. It feels very ‘slice-of-life’, and there are many chapters where you might feel like the story really isn’t progressing anywhere, in terms of the overarching plot. But I think that’s the beauty and vibe of this series. Which is not to say there isn’t anything happening, in fact there are lots of moving parts that are easy to miss in your first read. Which makes it very re-readable.
