I Am is a female-led drama anthology series from BAFTA-winning writer-director Dominic Savage and produced by Emmy winning Me+You Productions for Channel 4, starring three of Britain’s leading actors. The 3rd stage of labour happens after your baby is born, when your womb contracts and the placenta comes out through your vagina. Created, written and directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Dominic Savage (The Escape), the stories for each film have been developed in a creative partnership with the leading actors, with improvised dialogue and themes including relationships, mental health, and empowerment. The trilogy explores the experience of three women in moments that are emotionally raw, thought-provoking and personal. As well as its nomination at last year’s BAFTA Television Awards (Leading Actress for Samantha Morton in I Am Kirsty), I Am was nominated for the Best Original Programme and Best Single Drama at the Broadcast Awards; for Best TV Movie at the C21 International Drama Awards; as Best New Drama in the TV Choice Awards; and for Photography (Drama & Comedy) at the RTS Craft Awards. Samantha Morton also won the WFTV Performance Award for her performance in I Am Kirsty.
Once the placenta has come away from your womb, you should feel some pressure in your bottom and you'll need to push the placenta out. It can take up to an hour for the placenta to come away, but it usually only takes a few minutes to push it out. Breathing exercises, massage and having a warm bath or shower may help ease pain during this early stage of labour. Established labour (1st stage of labour) You can get supplements from pharmacies and supermarkets, or your GP may be able to prescribe them for you. Your midwife may suggest electronic monitoring if there are any concerns about you or your baby, or if you choose to have an epidural. A foetal scalp monitor will usually only be removed just as your baby is born, not before. Speeding up labourIf you go into hospital before your labour has become established, they may suggest you go home again for a while. You may begin to feel irregular contractions, but it can take many hours, or even days, before you're in established labour. It's usually the longest stage of labour. Your two-year-old has a real understanding of the world now – not just of things like physical cause and effect but of concepts that are much harder to grasp, such as how someone might be feeling and how her actions can impact upon others. Same goes for exercise — if there are times in the day when you aren’t nauseated, and doing some light exercise makes you feel more human, go right ahead.
