Just like in the first volume, this manga proved to be a wholesome and adorable, slow-burn romance. It also delivered the same heart-wrenching moments when Yuki Fumino exposed how Kohei struggled to understand and to be understood. I enjoyed witnessing Kohei and Taichi's characters grow, both individually and together, and lived for the sweet and tender moments between them. a b c Hodgkins, Crystalyn (December 28, 2019). Nov 25 i☆Ris the Movie - Full Energy!! - Anime Film Teaser Visual Revealed at i☆Ris Live Stage in Anime NYC & i☆Ris First Performance in New York Successfully Completed Although some of the themes are serious, the manga still manages to remain quite light-hearted. Every theme is dissected a little but not excessively. Instead, when events happen the characters mull over certain actions, talk them through, or move on. There’s a very quotidian aspect to the story-telling without being redundant or boring, this adds to the creation of nuanced and grounded livelihoods for our cast of characters. It feels like they’re real people rather than idealized versions of people. Ressler, Karen (November 1, 2017). "Japanese Comic Ranking, October 23–29". Anime News Network. Rebecca Silverman from Anime News Network reviewed I Hear the Sunspot favorably, praising its exploration of school stereotypes and Kohei and Taichi's relationship. [24] Regarding Theory of Happiness, she described it as being "sweet and thoughtful" and praised the art, but she also stated that it had "excessive" angst. [25] For Limit, Silverman praised the story's exploration of "different lived experiences of being 'normal '". [26] Corinne Barrett Percy described Kohei as an example of how people with disabilities and queer identities are seen as outsiders in Japanese society. [27] This second volume is far more emotional than the first not only because there’s a new character that comes into the picture, but because it’s focused on finding the meaning to your life. Going to college and getting a degree doesn’t mean you’ll be successful or even happy; actually, it doesn’t matter what you choose to do with your life, your goal should be focused on what you want, who you want to become. The story centers on two college students, Taichi and Kohei. Kohei has progressive hearing loss and is depressed. School work has become a challenge, and he doesn't want to accept his Hard of Hearing diagnosis. Taichi, a fun-loving, free-wheeling kind of guy brings Kohei out of his shell when they start sharing class notes and eating lunch together. Their friendship grows into much more.Written and illustrated by Yūki Fumino, the manga is serialized in Canna de France Shoin magazine since December 21, 2013. Currently, there are three tankōbon volumes of the series (I Hear the Sunspot: Limit count as one volume). It has been licensed for publication in the United States by One Peace Books under the name of I Hear the Sunspot.
