About this deal

Firstly can I just say I squealed in delight upon receiving this book. I had heard so many great things about it and wanted to read it myself.

Jewel Kilcher, known in the music industry solely by her first name, shares her powerful story of childhood trauma, homelessness, career success, and healing.Never Broken by Lori Duffy Foster is the second in the series but can definitely be read as a stand-alone novel. I received an ARC of You Were Never Broken: Poems to Save Your Life by Jeff Foster from NetGalley. This poetry collection is broken down into four sections: A deeply personal memoir [that] reveals a cycle of struggles and abuse that, until now, she had kept private….Jewel reflects on an abusive upbringing and the highs and lows of her professional career, including discovering that she was broke at what should have been the pinnacle of success.”

I am such a timid person that it is hard for me to imagine just how courageous some people are. Lisa Jamison, an investigative journalist and our protagonist, was willing to risk everything for her story and the pursuit of justice. I remember hearing Jewel’s voice on the radio for the first time. I was only 8 years old, and I didn’t understand many things: her voice, her words, her songs. I was too young to appreciate the magnitude behind the radio hit “Who Will Save Your Soul,” or why anyone needed to sing about souls in the first place. It was beyond me. But now I understand.

Success!

World War One or The Great War began in 1914 and ended in November of 1918. When "A Bond Never Broken" begins it is October of 1917 so there is slightly more than a year to go before this war ends though at the time no one knows this. War always causes great stress on those that are in it whether they are fighting where the battles are or are left at home and America was under a great deal of stress here at home. Anything or anyone German was under careful scrutiny whether t Songs are my history - the story of us. Where there is pain in our family, there was also a song not far behind, and healing.” Jewel’s evocative and captivating how-to for living a full and creative life…Jewel’s writing is conversational poetry, filled with rich details, as she explores her heritage or explains what she taught herself about music, art, and the music business….Her book will delight her fans, [and] reach beyond that base to those intrigued by what it takes to be successful after years of plugging away. Jewel’s lyrics, generously included throughout, reflect her authenticity and generosity.” I am enjoying this series! I enjoyed getting to know Lisa more, and I found her emotional depth in this novel well done.

All in all, the Lisa Jamison books are a great addition to the reporter thriller genre and I know, from reading this, that I will be drawn to read other books by Lori Duffy Foster.Yes, this is Jewel's story. The story is very interesting - but then she starts giving you her analysis and expert opinion. You will repeatedly hear "I Learned... but then...". Sadly, she doesn't learn. Her life is a mess of emotional stupidity and self evaluation that insists wisdom has entered the room - but it hasn't. She isn't the usual popstar with sex and drugs and money problems. She's a NEW emotionally insecure confused popstar with family issues and money problems. He holds meetings and retreats in the UK and Europe, clearly and directly pointing to the frustrations surrounding the spiritual search, to the nature of mind, and to the Clarity at the heart of everything. His uncompromising approach, full of humor and compassion, shatters the mind's hopes for a future awakening, revealing the awakening that is always already present, right in the midst of life.

The spiritual search came to an absolute end with the clear seeing that there is only ever Oneness. In the clarity of this seeing, life became what it always was: spontaneous, clear, joyful and fully alive, and Jeff began to write and talk about "nonduality" (which he often calls "the utterly, utterly obvious").I have seen him. I never explained it. Maybe he’ll read the book and be like: That girl is mean! She never called! You Were Never Broken is the best poetry collection I’ve read this year, and whether or you have the same struggles as Foster or are an avid poetry reader, I’m sure there is something within the touching poems that will speak to you.
