About this deal

A metaphor for the constant striving in the face of ups and downs in life, perhaps… What are the ‘Incy Wincy’ hand movements? Bridget stood at the sink and listened to the gurgle-swirgle as the water went away down the plug hole – she was sure she had heard a laugh and a giggle!

My 6 year old enjoyed making me “spider cakes” (cutting those open to discover spiders tumbling out was truly the stuff of nightmares! 😀 )

Through arts and crafts, children gain a sense of achievement. When they make their Incy Wincy Spider Craft they’ll be very proud of their effort, this helps them build confidence. Crafting with toddlers, also allows them to make mistakes, they can get things wrong which will lead to new ideas being developed. Self-regulation skills are developed through crafting, when they need to wait for glue to dry as an example, building patience. What is the meaning behind the Incy Wincy spider? Bridget would laugh and laugh and say to her dolly: “Come on, it’s time for Incy to have a drink,” and Bridget and Dolly would be very, very quiet and listen for a “whoosh, whoopee” as Incy and the water ran furiously down the pipe. One time Bridget thought she heard Incy shout “here comes the rain.” I think we all know it wasn’t really the rain – but it was so refreshing Incy didn’t mind. Now, just in case you don’t know what a rain spider is, I am going to tell you. Rain spiders have eight brown legs and grow very very big, they look scary but they are really quite friendly and they sometimes like to visit peoples gardens and sheds and garages. They like to live in hot countries where there is a lot of rain. Follow the first two actions a second time, but the grand finale of this Incy Wincy spider rhyme hand action is to raise both hands up high and form a semi-circle by sweeping your hands from side to side, showing the sun coming out. Next, waggle your fingers in an upward motion, showing Incy Wincy heading once again up that blessed spout! How to make an Incy Wincy Spider…

He looked all around him to see if anyone was watching. Now that is quite easy for a rain spider because they have eight eyes – four on one side and four on the other – imagine how good that would be! We offer the best in Incontinence Swimwear for All. Empowering everyone to swim with confidence and without worry to achieve the best of health and well-being. We know that aquatic therapy is the best and the most effective form of exercise for all. Helping you achieve healthy results faster and without pain. Bridget always wondered about what Incy looked like. So when she got older and went to school she found a book about spiders. In the book she was amazed to find a rain spider – a spider who loved the rain! … And guess what? She didn’t think it looked scary at all!Add some lavender like I suggest in my natural lavender play dough recipe here, and you’ve got a brilliant calm down method before bed too! Bridget giggled … “I can’t turn on the rain, I am much too small to do that!” she said, “but I can turn on the tap because I have to wash my hands before dinner.” At one point Miss 6 started to mix all of her “ingredients” into the cauldron to make spider stew, hanging the number 8s from the pipe cleaners, which I totally loved!

Sing this loud and proud, and get those little tiny tots to bellow it out with you too! Singing is just perfect for some well-needed soul development, learning can be tough for young ones, but rhymes and songs make it more bearable...It’s heard in lots of films, especially where a bit of a creepy or chilling moment is called for (spider phobia runs deep). Using their little fingers to mould and shape material develops fine motor skills, as they use those tiny hand muscles, to glue, paint, cut and colour this Incy Wincy Spider Paper Craft . Using both hands at the same time improves bilateral coordination. The faster they progress with these skills, the more independent they become. So, they’ll soon be totally confident with using a pencil, and tying their own shoelaces with this practice. At this stage sprinkle on some silver glitter to make it sparkle! It should be soft and pliable, ready to play. They all loved adding lots of googly eyes and using the white raffia to create spider webs. One child found that the raffia made great imprints when pulled off the dough again, so they followed that interest for a while, seeing what other patterns they could create!

Use your index finger of the first hand to touch the thumb of the second. So it looks like a climbing spider… Next, you’ll want to hold both hands up and wiggle the fingers and lower the hands, so it looks like the rain. Then, sweep your hands from one side to the other, washing the spider away! Now Bridget never saw Incy – and I am sure if she had she would have been a little scared to see those eight legs and eight eyes – but she heard him nearly every day that long hot summer and they got to know each other. Every evening just before dinner time when the sun had been shining all day making everywhere hot and dry, Incy would squeeze his eight long legs into the water pipe, rush to the top and say very gently: “Hello Bridget, would you turn on the rain please, that would make me very happy.” Follow your child’s lead and let them direct how they will use the loose parts with the play dough, as it may be very different to what my kids chose to do! We hope 2022 is a better year for all. Incy Wincy Lts is striving to help everyone to become healthy through swimming and aquatic exercising. Hmmm… this calls for some further investigation. So folk, are you in for a secret? Incy Wincy is actually a folk song, it first made its debut in various US publications around the 20th century. The ‘Spider Song’ featured in the 1910 ‘Camp and Camino in Lower California’, a publication of Arthur Walbridge North’s exploration of culture. And before that, in 1948 it appeared in Mike and Peggy Seeger’s ‘American Folk Songs for Children’. However, its original author, is unknown.

Singing songs with tiny tots is a superb way to entice early communication. At the end of the lines of the Incy Wincy rhyme, we find rhyming words, which help children recall the words. If you'd like to personalise the rhyme, just take out ‘Incy Wincy’ and add your child’s name instead. Songs, rhymes, role-play and stories provide a gateway to learning new sounds and words. Make a spooky spider play dough activity tray to work on early maths skills of counting and numeral recognition, as well as giving those fine motor muscles a fantastic work out too! The finger movements they’ll use as they sing the song, show the spider moving up and down the spout. Also, the movement of the rain cascading down and the circular movements of the hands to show the sun coming out. These all help with improving your child’s hand-eye coordination, as they watch you model the action so they’ll be able to have a go at copying. A lovely resource you might also like to try, is our Incy Wincy Spider Pencil Control Activity. I also tend to find play dough is the great leveller with a wide range of ages of children as they all love that sensory input no matter how old or young.
