The screen isn’t quite as big as the Samsung touchscreen, but it’s almost as clear. The smaller 3.5″ screen also means you get more battery life than Samsung’s 5″ offering. Inside the box are two identical-looking power adapters, but they aren't the same. Each is clearly marked, one for the camera (5.9V) and one for the monitor (5.0V). There's an extra USB cable for charging the monitor from a USB port or a power bank. Missing from the Pro (but available in the old model) is an option to charge the monitor with a micro USB cable, so you'll need to buy another proprietary charger if you lose one.

There are the Infant Optics signal issues that are a common problem to users. Parents had been complaining that their Infant Optics DXR-8 keeps losing the signal. This is not only about the 700 feet range limit, which should make the units work within an average-size house. It should be able to work through a maximum of 4 walls and two floors. But since it uses an FHSS wireless transmission, the connection between the parent unit and the baby monitor is prone to electromagnetic interference. Infant Optics, particularly DXR-8, does not use Wi-Fi. It uses FHSS wireless transmission instead, which is a more secured type of wireless connection. The Infant Optics DXR-8 supports up to four cameras. You can have all four of them connected to your parent unit and that parent unit only. Meaning, though you can have more than one camera watching over your kids, you cannot have more than one parent unit to view the videos from. You’re going to have to share the parent unit with your spouse or take turns every other night as most parents do.

Parents want to hear everything, but the most important sounds for a baby monitor to transmit (crying, crashes) are pretty easy to recognize even through a tiny and muffled speaker. If you want to calm your baby with the soothing sound of your voice while they’re waiting for you to come to the nursery, though, you might be disappointed. Nap time is the reason we own baby monitors. By the time your little bundle of joy is sawing logs mid-afternoon, you’re usually more than ready to take a break and do something other than sit quietly in the corner. A baby monitor lets you close the door (so you can make some noise) without worrying that you’ve abdicated responsibility. We love our babies, but it’s great to be able to love them from the comfort of a downstairs sofa while they’re asleep in their cribs.

When I compared it with others monitors, I founded that the DXR-8 Pro is one of the most reliable and has the best battery life. Adding cameras (up to 4 total cameras can be added) was easy using the camera pairing function in the menu. DXR 8 Pro has the ability to pair up to four cameras with the monitor. This enables parents to monitor multiple children or rooms. Two of our testers for this comparison are dads working from home, and they’re not alone: 3.9 million employees are now telecommuting at least half of their work hours, which amounts to almost three percent of the U.S. workforce. (And that doesn’t even include freelancers.) A video monitor doesn’t mean you can double up and watch your baby while you’re on a call or working at your computer, but if you’re tag-teaming with another caregiver a video monitor can make life much easier. Important features to considerOn the other hand, there are other features from the original DXR-8 that the DXR-8 Pro retains. Both lenses are interchangeable for zooming in or having a wide-angle lens for a panoramic view. Both products can pan and tilt as well. Impressive zoom capabilities The monitor has a 2x optical zoom lens, which is great if you are monitoring across a big room. Plus, the digital zoom goes up to 3x, and with this, you can achieve up to 6x magnification. Image quality:For a dedicated monitor, it has a good image quality. It will be enough to see your baby’s face details from 6 feet away.The image quality here isn’t quite as good as Samsung’s, but the controls and battery life are far better. Answer: Yes. When you use the two-way communication feature, your voice only goes to the camera that is currently selected. The monitor has a long lasting battery that lasts all day or night up to 10 hours with the screen on standby mode or 6 hours with video playing. This is completely normal for night vision cameras, and you can see a bit of that happening on the lower right of the above image.

Easy to use controls: The monitor has an intuitive interface where the volume and brightness controls, which you will frequently be using, are located on the top of the monitor for easy access. The other settings are on the D-pad, which controls navigation, and pan/tilt is also easily accessible. On the screen, the top bar is where everything is displayed from temperatures, time, signal strength, battery life, digital zoom, and you can see whether ANR is on or off. Infant Optics DXR-8 has been at the forefront of baby monitoring in the US for years now. Its features remain essential. You will get everything you need to keep an eye and ear on your baby for a very affordable price. When charged properly before the first use, we were very impressed with how long the monitor kept a charge. An LED bar to the right of the buttons indicates the charge level; it was almost 12 hours before it needed to be plugged in again, but a full charge does take seven hours. Overall, we estimate the outdoor range to be about 800-900 feet when there is nothing between the camera and parent unit (and the parent unit antenna is fully extended). Requires charging daily: The monitor uses a 2800mAh lithium-ion battery, which takes up to seven hours to charge. It lasts about 10 hours on standby mode and six hours with continuous video monitoring, so you will need to charge it daily. But, at least you can still use it as it charges.

Monitor Testing

Question: How do you change the viewing camera when using multiple cameras with the Infant Optics DRX-8? The zoom lens allows you to place the camera further away from your baby’s bed, which we particularly appreciate considering the controversial debate on baby monitors health concerns. In our tests, we found that placing the camera at about 8.2 feet / 2.5 meters gives the best results. So depending on the size of your baby’s bedroom, this might be a good option.
