This experience was a precursor to my venture into the liquor shop business, where I had the privilege of curating an extensive collection of liquors, granting me access to thousands of unique bottles from across the globe. The story of Johnnie Walker starts with the man himself. John Walker, a teetotaller or a person who’s never had alcohol, ran a grocery store which he then turned into a distillery in 1825. After he passed, his son Alexander and grandson Alexander II took over. The band released its first commercial blend called the Old Highland Whisky in 1865. Whisky, not Whiskey Johnnie Walker Gold, a blend of 15 whiskies, is the ideal smooth whisky to sip slowly in the evening, preferably in a tuxedo. It errs on the side of sweet with vanilla and caramel flavors as well as honey notes. The nose of the whisky has a rich, complex aroma with notes of oak, spice and sweet pastries. On the palate it is velvety smooth and mellow, with flavours of caramelised sugar, honeyed malt, smoky oak and grass. Dewar’s 16 whisky, also known as ‘Double Agent’ is one of the brand’s most recent, disruptive and unusual Scotch blends.
