All regrets stem from what happened at one moment we never imagined would happen to us. When our own action brings about an unexpected result, how can we not experience huge regret? After all, do we ever get another shot?” Our first story in Before We Say Goodbye is about Monji Kadokura, a husband who wants to travel to the time before his wife, Mieko, fell into a coma. He realizes he didn’t properly appreciate what she did as a wife and mother. Monji only pursued his career in archaeology without spending time at home with Mieko and their three children. And now that his wife is in a coma, he doesn’t get the chance to tell her until he visits the cafe. The fourth novel in the internationally bestselling Before the Coffee Gets Cold Series, following a new group of customers in a magical time-traveling Tokyo café. Meet more wonderful characters in the next captivating novel in the Before the Coffee Gets Cold series, Before We Say Goodbye, releasing November 14, 2023! Fumiko Kiokawa - a university graduate who knows six languages; she also visits the café every day after work. Before We Say Goodbye by Toshikazu Kawaguchi (translated by Geoffrey Trousselot) is the fourth installment of the Before the Coffee Gets Cold series and personally one of my favorites (along with Book #2, Tales from the Café ).

With faces both familiar and new, Tales from the Cafe follows the story of four patrons who visit to take advantage of café Funiculi Funicula's time-traveling offer and revisit moments with family, friends and lovers. Each one must face up to the past to move on with their lives. He wouldn’t have wanted me to cry. So, I’m going to live my life feeling good about myself. That’s what I want to say to those two when I get home: Thank you…” Over the course of one summer, four customers visit the café in the hopes of making that journey. But time travel isn’t so simple, and there are rules that must be followed. Most important, the trip can last only as long as it takes for the coffee to get cold. Monji Kadokura is a husband, father, professor, and adventurer who traveled extensively for his work. Over the years, Kadokura spent little time with his family, and left the task of raising the children to his spouse. The fourth novel in the internationally bestselling Before the Coffee Gets Cold Series, following a new group of customers in a magical time-traveling Tokyo caféIt is up to each individual to decide how they feel about the words of others and what action they wish to take.” I really enjoy these stories and seeing the time travelers grow as they tell their stories. These characters are Japanese, so don't expect them to act the way we do here in the west. The stories are a little repetitive, but to me, it's not bothersome. The rules must be shared with each traveller's in each story. If you want something to pull at your heart, this book and series is for you! I can't wait for the next one!
