About this deal

Kids charge into battle to take on The Crystal King Centaur NINJAGO figure and the 3 dangerous warriors by his side: Be Brave! Be Ninja!

The Crystal King shines with his mask and helmet, which is a slightly modified Oni mask, but with its own unique shape AND printing across the mask as well. How To Find One: The Pug Costume Guy can be found by feeling for his bone – there are two bones in each blind bad for reference. New Aliens are always a lot of fun, and I really need to credit LEGO for designing and producing a brand new alien species in Series 21! You can flip the mask up to reveal the Crystal King’s face, which is suitably frightening. And reminds me of a certain Overlord…That said, the ways the wings are spread out does help augment the Crystal King’s overall silhouette and shape. A welcome new addition to LEGO’s esteemed collection of Animal Suit Minifigures, Pug Costume Guy is peak LEGO adorable-ness. Fans of Pugs, and cute minifigures will rejoice at how excellent this minifigure is, capturing the Pug’s squat proportions, and distinct facial features so well. Each finely crafted, highly detailed minifigure comes in a sealed ‘mystery’ bag with one or more accessory elements and a collector's leaflet, making a great little gift that will put a smile on anyone's face. The Crystal King’s chest is also cool, with great use of droid arms and horns for its ribs, which encases a crystal windscreen canopy. Of course, the highlight of the Violin Kid is his awesome new Violin piece. Brand new LEGO musical instruments are always a treat to get in new Minifigure Series, and I especially like the design, and sharp printing on the violin.

LEGO® components meet stringent industry standards to ensure they are consistent, compatible and connect and pull apart consistently every time – it's been that way since 1958.

The Beekeeper is an excellent choice for Series 21, with near-perfect execution. From highly detailed accessories like his mask, fun dual-sided faces, and an all-around great occupation to introduce to LEGO, it hits all the right spots for me and is a total gem from Series 21.

The use of Tr. Bright Reddish Violet parts for the Vengestone baddies are a considerable departure from the "Hunted" sets, in which element-suppressing vengestone weapons were represented with Bright Orange and Tr. Bright Orange parts. But I definitely don't mind — it's a color that's never played quite so prominent a role in any previous faction's color scheme (even beyond the Ninjago theme), and one that definitely looks very cool and spooky in the context of this wave. And perhaps the titanium metallic body parts with orange mineral veins running through them are meant to help unify these differing portrayals. The Crystal King minifigure fitting into the ribcage is still a very cool detail, though, especially with how neatly it closes up! I'm imagining it as the Crystal King using some fearsome crystal powers to conjure a giant, monstrous new body AROUND themselves, with their original body sealed up tight inside the creature's heart (and perhaps serving as the new body's "weak point"). Each sealed box of Series 21 Minifigures contains 36 blind bags, and there are 3 complete sets in each box. It’s a really simple system and kind of eliminates chase/rare minifigures, as there are just 3x of each character in each box, which I think is a really nice move. The Ladybug Girl’s immaculate polka-dot wings are what ties the entire minifigure together, and I was very happy to discover that they were made out of hard plastic. I had feared they’d use the rubbery plastic like her headpiece, which is the same as Bumblebee Girl’s headpiece.

But let’s be frank – this Crystal King is simply no match for the OG 8692 Crystal King from Power Miners! Even if you’re not a fan of Ninjago, the design is still a lot of fun, and reminds me of fantasy video games like Warcraft. It does work best when paired with another “big good guy set” like 71775 Nya’s Samurai X Mech, or even 71774 Lloyd’s Ultra Gold Dragon. A very worthy addition to the LEGO Animal Costume Minifigures, and I can’t wait to get home to get an updated photo of the lineup with the Pug Costume Guy added! Violin is one of the most popular and recognizable classical instruments, so for those of you who had fond (or terrifying) memories growing up learning violin, or if you’re a professional Violinist, you’re going to enjoy finally having a proper LEGO Violin piece.
