I am a contemporary basket-maker and willow artist. My inspiration comes from nature, landscape, and the human condition. I graduated in 2004 with a degree in Applied Arts 3D Media and began working professionally in 2008. Tutor biography I started my journey in cut flowers by feeling that there had to be a better way to put beautiful flowers in a vase. Over the years I have learnt many ways to achieve this! With my commercial event and wedding floristry, I always try to create pieces with love and a personal flair. Teaching leisure and floral qualification courses allows me to share my love of flowers with many different people who often catch the flower bug. Published articles in ‘Floral Design’ magazine. Letchworth Garden City is on the London (King’s Cross) – Stevenage – Royston – Cambridge service. There are frequent trains from King’s Cross (35-50mins) and from Cambridge (30mins). Stephen Barnard spent 21 years as a specialist writer with ReaderÂ’s Digest before going freelance in 1999. He has been writing and lecturing on broadcasting, film and popular music on a part-time basis for over 30 years. He has run courses for the WEA, De Montfort University, the City University, and a number of Hertfordshire arts groups, His five published books include ‘Studying RadioÂ’, the standard academic textbook on the subject.

Marion Dearlove has a master’s degree in adult education, a City and Guilds adult teaching diploma, and has an undergraduate diploma in art and design. Jill is a Fellow of The Society of Botanical Artists and has written two books on how to achieve success with drawing and working with colour. Jill has been teaching the subject of Botanicals for over 15 years and is happy to teach all levels from beginners through to the more experienced. A relaxed, informal class to learn the skills of machine patchwork and quilting, and add a little design pizazz along the way! A range of techniques will be covered including rotary cutting, getting the best from your sewing machine, colour choices, machine piecing and quilting and basic construction methods. A fresh project will be started each term which can be used to make a quilt, wall-hanging, or smaller item. It closed in 2016, as it was losing money and now looks very sad and empty.Jane’s passion for glass has been a lifelong one, having been surrounded by glass since birth. Both parents worked in the glass industry – her father as a master glass blower, her mother as a glass finisher. Having tried many crafts before finally finding fused or kiln-formed glass, Jane is passionate about the versatility of glass and the uplifting nature of what can be produced. Come along and learn upholstery skills in a friendly and informal setting. Whether you are a beginner or have more experience these classes provide the ideal environment to work at your own pace on your own project with the support and guidance of an experienced upholsterer. During this course we will create an intricate mixed media piece of art inspired by coral reefs. We will use a variety of techniques to build up a textural 8 inch hoop. You will experiment with a range of fabrics, needle felting, simple printing, stitches & beads to build a unique piece of art to take home. Mike has exhibited in London, Nottingham (Patchings Festival) and throughout Hertfordshire. He is a member of Herts Visual Arts, the Wynd Gallery, a co-operative group of artists in Letchworth G.C, and a Professional Associate of the Society of All Artists. Sheena holds a B.Ed., as well as the City & Guilds Certificate and Diploma in Patchwork and Quilting. She is a member of the Quilters’ Guild of Britain and Ireland, and their Modern and Contemporary Special Interest Groups, and a member of the Modern Quilt Guild. She would love to share that passion with you and help you become the best quilter that you can be.

Portrait painting is becoming increasingly fashionable in the art world. There are many painting styles that can render a stunning portrait. Sheena Roberts has been sewing since she was tiny and creating patchwork quilts for almost as long. She didn’t start off being a confident seamstress. In fact, was all but thrown out of the class at school but she had someone who did not give up on her – and that has influenced her to want to “pass that forward”. Her passion is in sharing skills, and she has been doing that through Green Man Quilts since 2013.

This art group focuses on experimentation with a wide range of materials and mixed media. Your tutor will provide inspiring ideas and direction on technique. Classes generally begin with demonstrations, from where you are then encouraged to develop ideas and let your work take on its own unique style. This course leads you to working on many different surfaces and allows you to explore what’s possible when you combine different and unconventional materials to produce incredible outcomes.
