If you use Aybel Fiske, add the content of the sachet Aybel Fiske into the bin for softener of your washing machine. Hand dye

Do two separate dyebaths, one with salt and one with vinegar. This will probably be best for darkest colours. When the machine has completed the wash cycle allow it to complete the balance of the wash/rinse/spin cycle. Fill a stainless steel or enamel pot with just enough water for the fabric to move freely. Turn on to high heat.A small amount of any dye makes a pastel (example: use 1/16, 1/8 or 1/4 tsp of dye colour mixed with 1 cup hot water). Start with the smallest amount and add more dye or hot water as needed. Fabric Dye Colour Guide Create 100's of new custom fabric dye colours using the core Tintex dyes. A basic sampling of colours is very versatile for many projects. Make a custom colour sample: cut a 12" x 12" swatch of fabric and measure dye with a teaspoon or tablespoon. Dissolve Tintex into 1 or 2 cups of very hot water. Each custom colour recipe may include full or partial measurements of teaspoons or tablespoons (example: 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 tsp and/or Tbsp). Adjust the amount of dye as needed to get your desired custom colour. Make Pastels Using Any Tintex Dye

Set your machine for the hottest possible water temperature and longest possible wash cycle. If you are able to extend the wash cycle, do so. The longer you are able to allow the fabric to remain in the wash/dye cycle the darker the colour and the better the fixation. Use double the usual amount of dye for projects using dark colours and bright colours. Get the most colour intensity when you use the hottest water possible for your fabric (example: use the stove top dyeing method, heat water with a kettle or use 140°F water). Neutralize Bright Fabric When Over-Dyeing Darker Add the content of the sachet Fabric Dye into 20 cl hot water. Add a tablespoon of salt (20 gram) and stir until all powder is dissolved. For wool and polyamide (nylon) add a tablespoon full of vinegar to the solution. When computing the percentage of iDye & iDye Poly (to achieve the 3-5% dye used), remember to take into account the blend of your fabric. Not all fabrics are blended 50/50.For cotton, linen and rayon add one cup (237 ml) of salt. For silk add 1/3 cup (78 ml) of white vinegar instead of salt. Do not use the washing machine method for wool as it will felt. Add 1 cup/237 ml of non-iodized salt for cotton, linen and rayon or ¹/³ cup/78 ml of white vinegar for silk. Avoid pouring directly onto fabric.

Instructions below are for achieving the most vibrant color. For lighter shades, use less dye. Add dye to the dye bath in the appropriate amount to achieve desired shade. Turn off heat and allow the dye bath to return to room temperature, stirring occasionally. Rinse when cool enough to handle. Wear gloves as residual dye can stain skin. Add pre-wetted garments or fabric and bring to a rolling boil. Maintain temperature and stir frequently for ½ to 1 hour. For uniform colour, use constant agitation.Add pre-wetted fabric and bring to a rolling boil. Maintain temperature and stir frequently for ½ to 1 hour. For uniform color, use constant agitation. Polyester is hard to dye and requires very high water temperature to achieve good color; therefore, we recommend dyeing polyester only with the stovetop method. Pour the dissolved paint into the main washing machine detergent container. For washing machines that do NOT start pumping off, the dissolved paint can also be poured into the drum of the washing machine. Substitute Dyes: a Tintex dye from the same colour family can be used in a new dye formula. Colour results may vary depending on how light/dark the substituted colour is and how much dyed is used in the formula (example: cardinal red, scarlet red, tangerine orange).
