Llamas Unleashed is a fully playable base game that is NOT intended to be shuffled into your Unstable Unicorns games. It comes with 135 cards in a magnetic box, and it has the same base mechanics, but with a few twists. If a player reaches the required number of Animals while an effect chain is active, that player is not declared the winner until all links in that effect chain have resolved.

Downgrade Card – Can go into any player’s Field, and additional action will be taken based on their description.

The Specifics

Llamas Unleashed is a recent release from the makers of Unstable Unicorns. This 2-8 player card game has players, much like Unstable Unicorns, competing to collect seven animals – llamas, alpacas, goats, and rams. Allow each player to choose their favorite Baby Animal card and place it in their Field. Place any remaining Baby Animal cards in the Nursery. The object is to get 7 animals in the Field when playing with 2 to 5 players. This changes to 6 animals in the Field if playing with 6 to 8 players. Some time ago a game was released called Unstable Unicorns. It was a card game where you played and collected a series of unicorn-based cards to build up a set of unicorns before anyone else could do that same, while simultaneously trying to ruin other people’s games by playing various cards to either bolster your own cards or mess theirs up. It was fun, especially in short bursts with a few friends. But, apparently, people wanted more llamas, and as such Llamas Unleashed was… well… unleashed. If you’ve played Unstable Unicorns then you’ve pretty much played this (in terms of gameplay and mechanics at least) but there’s so much great stuff in here that it’s definitely worth a revisit. Animal cards, Upgrade cards, and Downgrade cards have no effect while they are in your hand. Their effects are only active when they are in your Field.

Like in Unstable Unicorns where you need to find the baby unicorn in the beginning, you’ll need to birth a set of goats in Goat Lords. Now you can begin building your herd. From here you can choose more cards, duel, or birth more goats. The mechanics of Llamas Unleashed are near-identical to Unstable Unicorns, but with a few twists. Since there are four different types of animals, some cards only affect one type of card. So “Goatmeal Raisin Cookie” will only affect your goat cards. If any of these effects trigger the effect of another card, another link is added to the effect chain. The core mechanics are based on those of Unstable Unicorns, but there are a ton of new card effects that you've never seen before. Also, Llamas. How can you resist?Magic cards have one-time effects. When you play a Magic card, it immediately takes effect and is then discarded. The first person with the required number of Animals in their Field wins. Each Animal card counts for 1 Animal (unless otherwise stated). Some cards specify that they can't be "affected" by certain things. Cards can be "affected" directly or indirectly. Direct effects target a card individually or as part of a group. Just like in Unstable Unicorns, your opponents will be trying to sabotage your progress. If your monsters aren’t strong enough when your opponents interrupt the babies’ nap, you can wave bye-bye to the monsters you’ve worked so hard to build. Chomp! These babies can finally eat solid food — namely your monsters. Eat them before they can eat you.
