About this deal

Year in Review/2011 Year in Preview: AMC". The Futon Critic. January 24, 2011 . Retrieved March 25, 2012. Andreeva, Nellie (January 14, 2012). "AMC Sets 2-Hour Premiere For 'Mad Men' & 'Killing' Return, Supersizes 'Walking Dead', Promises 'Killing' Killer Will Be Revealed". Deadline. Archived from the original on January 15, 2012 . Retrieved January 15, 2012. The main Mad Man is the confident womanizer Don Draper, who is head of the Creative department at a mid-sized ad agency in 1960s Madison Avenue. I admit, at first I kind of hated him, but as the viewer learns more about him and his past, I learned to - not love him exactly - but like him and want to watch him endlessly. He is a complicated character who can be a very good man, but also a very bad man. Shen, Maxine (May 19, 2011). "That '60s show". New York Post. Archived from the original on October 24, 2012 . Retrieved September 29, 2012.

Best TV Shows of 2008". Metacritic. October 3, 2008. Archived from the original on March 22, 2010 . Retrieved August 9, 2023. {{ cite web}}: CS1 maint: unfit URL ( link)Don Draper is joined by a rich cast of supporting characters, many of whom deserve a show of their own: The ambitious young Campbell who is utterly sleazy most of the time, but has occasional moments of growth and even cuteness.Peggy Olson starts out as Draper's secretary, but her growth into a strong, confident woman mirrors what is happening for Woman in the 60's. Silver fox Stirling - he may be morally bankrupt but gets some of the best lines. I could go on . . .

Albert remained a supervising producer for the third season but Andre Jacquemetton and Maria Jacquemetton became consulting producers. Hornbacher was promoted again, this time to executive producer. Veith returned as a story editor and Gordon became a staff writer. Noxon remained a consulting producer and was joined by new consulting producer Frank Pierson. Dahvi Waller joined the crew as a co-producer. Weiner, Albert, Andre Jacquemetton, Maria Jacquemetton, Veith, Noxon, and Waller were all writers for the third season. New writer's assistant Erin Levy, executive story editor Cathryn Humphris, script co-ordinator Brett Johnson and freelance writer Andrew Colville completed the third season writing staff. Regarding Season 3, Matthew Gilbert of The Boston Globe wrote "it's an absolutely gorgeous, amber-tinted vision of the early 1960s" and added "detailed with enough 1950s-era accoutrements to seem authentically Camelot." [110] The show also received critical praise for its historical accuracy– mainly its depictions of gender and racial bias, sexual dynamics in the workplace, and the high prevalence of smoking and drinking. [13] [27] [113] [114] Lois, George (March 24, 2012). "TV 'Mad Men' real? I don't think so". CNN. Archived from the original on January 12, 2013 . Retrieved March 26, 2012. Bradner, Liesl (August 8, 2008). "Mad Men using Frank O'Hara's 'Meditations in an Emergency' boosts sales". Los Angeles Times. Archived from the original on March 8, 2009 . Retrieved March 18, 2009.On April 7, 2013, the sixth season premiered to 3.37 million viewers, and a 1.1 adults 18–49. [132] This was down from the fifth season premiere, but up from the fifth season finale. The sixth season finale on June 23, 2013, attracted 2.69 million total viewers, and achieved a 0.9 adults 18–49 demographic rating; on par with the fifth season finale. [133] This helped bring the season average up to 2.49 million viewers, down just slightly from the season five average. [134] Mad Men is widely considered one of the most influential shows in the medium's history, and it had an important impact on television history. It raised the profile of AMC, and it was the first series on basic cable to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, winning a record four times, tied only with Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, The West Wing and Game of Thrones for most wins in that category. Mad Men 's success allowed AMC to greenlight other series, such as Breaking Bad, and it also inspired several other networks to launch their own prestige drama series. As a result, many TV critics credit Mad Men and AMC with starting a new wave of Peak TV. [154] [155] [156] [157] Many elements of the show were commended including its unique episode and season structures, subtle and atmospheric tone, exploration of feminism, attention to detail and its overall approach regarding history. [158] [159] [160] Cook, Kim (April 27, 2012). " 'Mad Men' inspires Midcentury Modern decor resurgence". The Arizona Republic . Retrieved October 30, 2014. Matt Phillips (April 6, 2011). "Netflix: The Fight for Content Continues". The Wall Street Journal. Archived from the original on April 9, 2011 . Retrieved April 8, 2011. Aside from that, I won't go any further in reviewing the actual show, but I will say a few things about the box set. I bought the Complete Seasons 1-7 Blu Ray Collector's Box Set, and first off the series looks and sounds amazing in HD. There's also an exclusive bonus features disc which was a pretty interesting watch after finishing the series, featuring interviews with the cast, creator Matthew Weiner, a few key members of the production crew, and an archive of some of the prominent ads from each Season.
