About this deal

The strongest permanent magnetic metal you can buy is a neodymium (Nd) magnet. Neodymium magnets are not pure neodymium. The pure element is paramagnetic at room temperature and antiferromagnetic at very cold temperatures (20 K or −253.2 °C). Neodymium magnets are a neodymium alloy (Nd 2Fe 14B). Neodymium alloy magnets lose their magnetism at lower temperatures. Under these conditions, samarium-cobalt (SmCo) magnets are the strongest magnetic metals. What Metals Are Not Magnetic? Generally, electrons fill the atom's orbitals in pairs. If one of the electrons in a pair spins upward, the other spins downward. It's impossible for both of the electrons in a pair to spin in the same direction. This is part of a quantum-mechanical principle known as the Pauli Exclusion Principle. Clamp the aluminum piece in place using a clamp or vice. This will help keep the aluminum in place while you test the magnet attraction.

The past decade has seen them form a fundamental part of consumer electronic devices. Without them the boom in computer hard drives would not have been possible, loud speakers would not perform so well and new wind turbine farms springing up around the world would cease to exist. They really are simply an unnoticeable part of everyday life. What are Neodymium Magnets? Hungerford, Laura. "Cow Magnets." Newton Ask a Scientist. July 16, 2003. This is because magnets attract materials that have unpaired electrons that spin in the same direction. In other words, the quality that turns a metal into a magnet also attracts the metal to magnets. Many other elements are diamagnetic — their unpaired atoms create a field that weakly repels a magnet. A few materials don't react with magnets at all. Encyclopedia Britannica. "Magnet." Encyclopedia Britannica Online. Oct. 8, 2020. (Sept. 5, 2022) https://www.britannica.com/science/magnet

Iron and other ferromagnetic materials are crystalline. As they cool from a molten state, groups of atoms with parallel orbital spin line up within the crystal structure. This forms the magnetic domains discussed in the previous section.

Ferrite does not give the power of Neodymium but it creates deep depths of field and offers outstanding value for money. Health and safety

Proponents offer several explanations for how this works. One is that the magnet attracts the iron found in hemoglobin in the blood, improving circulation to a specific area. Another is that the magnetic field somehow changes the structure of nearby cells. Repeat the above steps for different surfaces of the aluminum piece, such as the top, bottom, and sides. This will help you understand how the surface condition of the aluminum affects the attraction. This is a very common question often asked when people talk about magnets. The simplest answer we can give is that “they are used in almost every commercial application across the world, from industrial manufacturing and consumer electronic devices to sustainable energy and domestic power generation”.
