A heat shield is a protective barrier that is placed between your TV and the fireplace to reduce the amount of heat that reaches your TV. It is typically made of materials such as metal or glass and can be mounted to the wall or attached to the TV itself. Clearance is required on all sides of the fireplace opening. Accordingly, a mantelpiece (defined as a mantel shelf, plus trim down the sides) needs to be installed at a proper distance on all sides. Again, this is a minimum of 6 inches, but for every 1/8 inch that protrudes, another inch of clearance should be added. Can I Make A Wooden Fireplace Mantel Fireproof? Fireplace accessories like a fireplace heat shield or mantel shelf are indispensable to place over your fireplace. But if you have an electric fireplace, you don’t need to set up a heat shield. Why?

Steel flue pipe (often called vitreous pipe) is the pipe that comes out of the top of the top or rear of the majority of stoves. Flue pipes GET EXTREMELY HOT and should be located as to avoid igniting combustible materials. See clause 2.15 and diagram 19 of ADJ ( Document J of the Building Regulations).

The Stovefitter’s Manual Installation Guides

make sure the TV will be safe. Make sure the environment doesn’t exceed 100°F ( HGTV). For true peace of mind, generally it is recommended to use TVs in balanced temperatures. There are great solutions such as indoor The deflector can be painted a similar color to the mantel to make it more conspicuous. If you are painting the deflector, be certain the paint is heat resistant and rated for use around a fireplace. A deflector is a piece of thin metal that is installed directly beneath the mantel and angled (usually at 45 degrees) away. The deflector will “bounce” the heat off the metal plate and away from the mantel. This prevents the mantel from absorbing heat and overheating. The little bit of space between the mantel and the deflector allows for airflow, preventing overheating. You can enjoy all these benefits as long as your mantel remains in its shape and its frame stays in good condition. Over time, the heat from the fireplace damages the mantel’s finish and its frame. As a result, it starts losing its protection capacity.

What is the maximum output in kW of your "5kW" wood burning stove? The majority of manufacturers just specify the “nominal output” and this figure means very little in real life. The nominal is a figure the manufacturer chooses to sell the stove at - the stove is capable of reaching at least this output with one fuel load. Nominal means "capable of". But it is not the maximum. To protect your TV from heat damage caused by a fireplace, it is important to keep it a safe distance away from the heat source. You can also install a heat shield or use a TV enclosure designed to protect your TV from heat. This means that your 5″ flue pipe should be 15″ away from combustibles and your 6″ flue pipe should be 18″ away from combustibles in any direction. Yes, you can mount your TV above a fireplace, but it is not recommended as the heat from the fireplace can damage your TV. If you choose to mount your TV above the fireplace, it is important to keep it a safe distance away from the heat source and use a TV enclosure or heat shield to protect it.

As a rule, the temperature of the mantel usually doesn’t exceed 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Combustibles, defined as materials that can burn, can be heated around 117 degrees Fahrenheit above room temperature (which is commonly around 70 degrees Fahrenheit). A combustible above 200 degrees Fahrenheit is at risk of becoming a fire hazard. Like a wood or gas fireplace insert, an electric fireplace insert doesn’t produce any emissions or fume. So, it will bring no damage to your wall or tv (if you place it over the heater). Any combustible material must be three times “X” away from the flue pipe where X = the diameter of the flue pipe. A mantel serves more purposes than being an aesthetically pleasing decorative shelf. The mantel adds cohesion to the fireplace, and it breaks up the solid wall of masonry. The mantel also serves as a heat barrier to framed pictures or TVs hung above. Although a mantel itself serves as a heat barrier, it too needs protection from fireplace heat. The distance from the top of the fireplace opening to the bottom side of the mantel is described as the clearance. Local building codes determine what the safe clearance is. Make sure the mantel is installed according to those codes to help protect it from wear.
