About this deal

This method of measurement is considered invasive because it requires puncturing the material to obtain a result. However, pin moisture meters are the only type that can help identify the exact location of moisture. Pinless

Drywall is a popular building material for creating walls and ceilings for homes and offices. During the mid-20th century, it started replacing the old lath and plaster technique because it was inexpensive and easy to install. If you live in a home built within the last 60 years or so, you almost certainly live in a home with drywall. Research Report, Sustainable construction timber – sourcing and specifying local timber, Forestry Commission, 2016 We’ll try not to gush, but the Lignomat moisture meter is pretty much everything you need from a moisture meter, and it’s by far the easiest to use in the group. First, this thing doesn’t even have a power button; simply poke it into a piece of wood and it will give you a reading. Second, it provides readings for a wide range of species while only requiring the user to switch between “Group 2” or “Group 3”—no fancy calculations necessary. And, we couldn’t help but enjoy the Lignomat’s accuracy and the way the cap forms a comfortable hand-hold during testing. If we’re going to complain about something, it’s that this thing looks and feels like it’s straight out of the 1980s, but we’re not so sure nostalgia is a bad thing. To help with battery saving, the moisture meter will automatically turn off after a period of inactivity. It also has a low battery indicator. These features can be super helpful if you’re going to be using your moisture meter a lot, as you won’t want to be caught without a spare battery when you need one. Like many other moisture meters, the NoCry NCDMM is capable of not only measuring the moisture levels in wood or masonry but can also detect the temperature. Conversely to other models on our list, though, the temperature range of this model is -20°C — 70°C, which is much wider. With that in mind, and similarly to what we said about drywall, concrete must remain dry and damp free. So all we can say here in that a normal moisture meter reading for concrete needs to remain low. To do this, press and release the SPECIES/MATERIAL button until you see “REL” displayed on the main LCD screen and in the lower-left corner. Next, press the ON/HOLD button to activate the mode. Your moisture meter will now operate on a relative measurement scale (0-100), suitable for measuring non-solid wood or non-wood-based materials, including drywall. To return to Standard Measurement mode, press the SPECIES/MATERIAL button again.

Invasive or non-invasive: If you’re looking for a moisture meter that’s non-invasive – leaving no marks on the surface it’s taking the reading from – you’ll need a model that uses pads as opposed to pin needles. The Dr.meter Digital Wood Moisture Meter is one of the best moisture meters in in terms of value for money. This digital moisture meter has a range of features and is a reasonable price without compromising on performance.

Because drywall is so sensitive to even small amounts of moisture, it’s important to get the moisture reading in drywall. You need to know where these minute amounts of moisture are, and if you find any, you need to be able to monitor the drying process to make sure that all excess moisture has been removed from the drywall. Not All Moisture Meters Have a Relative Mode
